Holy Moments Happen Around Us Every Day – a quiet moment at home between a parent and child, an evening of boisterous laughter with friends and family, or an encounter with God’s beautiful creation. We encourage you to open your hearts and minds to see the holiness in every day. And when you capture a holy moment on film (or rather, digitally!) send it to goodnews@gmail.com. We’ll share them here to inspire others to see the holy in every moment.

🎵 🎶 🎶🎵 MUSIC NOTES 🎵🎶🎶 🎵
A Weekly Series by Daniel Susan, our Minister of Music
“Silence may be kept” is the name of one section of a larger organ work entitled “Rubrics”, written by the living American composer, Dan Locklair. He was inspired to compose this during a particularly long sermon when he began flipping through The Book of Common Prayer and reading the rubrics – the brief directions to stand, sit, kneel, or other actions. Traditionally they have been printed in red to be set apart from the black text of the liturgy, thus the name “rubric”. I often hear seminarians quote the direction “Do the red, say the black”. “Rubrics” has five movements with the titles: 1. “…’Hallelujah,’ has been restored…” 2. “Silence may be kept”. 3. “…and thanksgivings may follow.” 4. “The peace may be exchanged.” 5 “The people respond – Amen!”. (I can find these for you in the prayer book if you really want to see them; none are from the Holy Eucharist.) Next week we’ll hear “The peace may be exchanged”, one of the most lovely organ compositions of our time. The entire work is easy to find on YouTube. Who knew that something as mundane as liturgical rubrics could spark such beautiful art? Silence may be kept, indeed!
