After We Lose A Loved One, We Feel Lost And Alone; our heart is broken. Although every person grieves differently, it is normal to feel sad, angry, and overwhelmed. It is also helpful to do healing work after a loss in community with others…
A Free “Healing After Heartbreak” Workshop Series is being offered at Saint James’ this fall. The series will be presented by Healing Spirit, an organization with experience helping people find healing after loss. The fully subsidized workshop series will begin on Tuesday, October 25, 2016. It will continue for 7 more Tuesday evenings from 7:00 to 8:45 p.m. Each evening will include an educational presentation about an aspect of grief & healing followed by a small group session facilitated by a trained facilitator. To attend these free workshops as a participant, or if you know someone you would like us to contact about it, or if you feel a calling to help facilitate a group, please contact Gwyn Dugliss at 734-379-0907 or griefhealing@saintjamesgi.net. These workshops are intended for the entire community, not just Saint James’ members. Please spread the word about this wonderful and rare opportunity. If you know people who are grieving, please personally encourage them to sign up. Also consider attending with them for support. The time is guaranteed to be excellent and helpful.
Dr. David L. Wolf, author of The Gift Is You will be speaking at Saint James Monday, Oct.10th at 6:30pm. Sponsored by the ECW and Men’s Ministry, you won’t want to miss this inspiring event as Dr. Wolf talks about how a horrible accident revealed to him how faith, prayer, friendship and God’s sovereign care provides assurance and hope for a life that makes a difference. A light supper will be served.
The Heart’s Journey Through the Seasons will continue this year, with some slight changes. We will gather only once per for one session on a Tuesday morning for a little over an hour at Sacred Heart Church on Parke Lane. Sister Betty will lead us as we join others in prayer, song, meditation, seasonal stories and gratitude for all the blessings that God brings into our lives. The Autumn session will be Tuesday, October 11th at 10am. Mark your calendars now for Winter (January 10), Spring (March 21) and Summer (June 20). Those who attended last year found the gatherings to be a source of peace and joy as we shared with each other the love of God and the blessings He brings. Any questions? Please contact Amy Kohair (734-693-0694) or Kate Hartwell (313-318-327).

Out There With Outreach September 2016 Report:
On Saturday, September 17, 2016, our friends and Church Family prepared and served the noon meal, at the Spirit of Hope Soup Kitchen, in Detroit. Over 225 people enjoyed fellowship and a delicious meal consisting of a bowl of cool sliced peaches; a hearty soup filled with a multitude of vegetables, lean ground beef, and macaroni, topped off with finely shredded cheddar cheese. Fresh dinner rolls and butter rounded out the meal. Peanut butter & jelly sandwiches were made and passed out at the door to provide a snack for later. A generous St. James family provided the 30 lb. of beef for the soup! Thank YOU! Blanche Hutchison and her beautiful grand daughter Daijah created wonderful bags full of MUCH APPRECIATED toiletries which Daijah passed out to the guests! Our outstanding work crew did an amazing job being the hands and hearts of the Holy Spirit! Thank You: Diane Larkin, Dave & Kate Hartwell, Kim Faistenhammer, Kathy Toth, Marie Foggia, Barry & Lynda VanEngelen, John & Cathy Bishop, Blanche Hutchison & Grand daughter Daijah Tatum, Beth Holliday & her friend Paul, and our friend and UPS man: Ron Martinez & his friend Jane! What a well oiled machine they make!!! Thank you one and ALL!!! Please watch the Outreach bulletin board, your church bulletin and the on-line “Good News” for details of our next turns at the Soup Kitchen. Briefly for now: Oct. 22, we cook & Sacred Heart serves the meal.
Without You and the Grace of God, this ministry could not happen. If you have any questions, please feel free to call us! With Love & Gratitude Always,

🎵 🎶 🎶🎵 MUSIC NOTES 🎵🎶🎶 🎵
Choir season is up and running, and it’s never too late to join! We are doing some very exciting music this year, including some great standards by composers Ralph Vaughan Williams and John Rutter, exciting new pieces by composers Libby Larsen and Benjamin Wegner, and even a Bach Cantata in December, “Nun komm, der Heiden Heiland” BWV 61, complete with soloists and orchestra! This is not a year you want to miss! Bell choir will also be doing some exciting work this year as well! Please let me know if you plan to attend! The St. James Bell Choir rehearses Thursdays at 6:30PM, and the St. James Adult Choir rehearses Thursdays at 7:30PM. All are welcome!
Please consider joining in the music at St. James, we have lots of excellent programming this year. If you have reservations about joining that I can smooth over, or even just want to chat and learn some more about music, I’m always happy to talk! I’m easily reached at music@saintjamesgi.net.
This morning’s musical point of interest: Enjoying the French theme this morning? All the organ music you hear today comes from France, with various composers represented from across the centuries. French composers have always had a love for the organ, so it is impossible to represent every major composer this morning, but the French have yielded not only some of the best organ compositions ever written, but some of the highest-quality organs ever made, with César Franck pioneering the expansion of the organ in the late 19th century in order to rival the sound of the orchestra. Over the centuries, the French have always been known to write very “colorful” music, particularly when compared to the Germans and Austrians. The music you hear today, particularly the turn of the 20th century composers, reflects that.
Stay tuned for upcoming music events in the area:
Friday, Oct. 14 at 2PM: Grosse Ile Musicale features a Woodwind Quintet at Grosse Ile Presbyterian
Saturday, Oct. 22 at 7:30PM: Minister of Music Robert Ragoonanan in a piano recital performing the music of David Guion, Henri Dutilleux, and Franz Schubert.
Nov. 12 at 8PM and 13 at 4PM: Berlin Philharmonic in Ann Arbor. Tickets at http://ums.org/performance/berlin-philharmonic/
