A HOLY MOMENT OF THE WEEK

Send yours to goodnews@saintjamesgi.net

On a field trip to Blue Heron Trading Co. with Wendy, Lynda, Linda, and Kate.

Easter is a great Sunday for Baptisms! Talk to Fr. Phil to learn more.

Palm Sunday Services are right around the corner! Hold March 25 on your calendar. Palm Sunday Services begin at 8 & 10am in Galloway Hall.

Holy Week Services are a powerful way to prepare for Easter. Maundy Thursday is the celebration of Jesus’ last supper with his disciples. We gather in the chapel at 7 pm. Good Friday services begin at 1 pm in the chapel. This year we will remember Jesus’ Seven Last Words. Holy Saturday services are brief and stark. We gather in the chapel at 9 am for a simple worship service.

Holy Saturday For Kids is a special morning for children and families that includes an Easter Egg Hunt, a fun Craft, a telling of the Easter Story by Fr. Phil, and a snack. We gather in Galloway Hall at 10:30AM on March 31. Please encourage your child to invite friends!

Our EASTER VIGIL Sunrise Service begins at 7:30am on Easter morning, April 1. We begin in the dark with the lighting of a single candle to represent Christ’s resurrection. This beautiful service gives a special start to Easter.

Our EASTER FESTIVAL Eucharist begins at 10 am on Easter morning, April 1, including a Festival Brass Quintet, a full choir, an Easter sermon and Holy Communion. This service is a singularly joyful celebration of Resurrection!

Love To Read? Take Advantage Of Our Book Exchange!  There’s a shelf outside the kitchen where we encourage you to bring your old books and pick up new ones.

Uto Box Collection is Today!  Our annual ingathering of “blue boxes” will take place next week.  The monies collected provide grants to people in need from our diocese, our nation and throughout the world. Kept in a prominent place your UTO box is a daily reminder to say a prayer of thanks and drop in coins in gratitude for God’s many blessings.  Today our loose plate offering will be donated to United Thank Offering or, if you would prefer, checks made out to St. James ECW with UTO in the memo line are also gladly accepted.  Thank you in advance for your generosity.  Our change can change lives.  Wendy K. 248-476-0265

Out there with outreach: spirit of hope soup kitchen…We enjoyed a very successful day at the Spirit of Hope Soup Kitchen on Saturday, February 17, 2018!!!  We swapped meals with the Detroit Moose Hockey Team who will be preparing and serving the meal on March 17th.

The February meal consisted of the current favorite: Taco-macaroni-vegetable- soup, topped with shredded cheese, which was served with fresh, warm corn bread and cool sliced peaches!  Everyone belonged to the “Clean Plate Club”!  Peanut butter & jelly sandwiches were made “to go” on  wheat bread this time for a snack for later.  Judy & David Christie kindly donated the hamburger for the soup.  The rest of the crew consisted of many families: Beth Holliday, Paul Primeau and their children Grace, Alaina & Josh; Barry & Lynda VanEngelen with their children Sherry & Ben Howes and Grand kids Evelyn and Nathan.  Erica, Tom & Henry Benson were busy helping with Tina Wirtel-Knudsen and daughter Gillian Wirtel and Grandson Gavin!  Anne & David Rudziensky and daughter Julie helped with  Christine Koester and daughters Ashlyn & Caitlyn.  Greg & Josh Goyert were a huge help when they went out to purchase a new middle sized coffee urn when they noticed that the old one had a badly broken plug!  Carol Nankervis brought her friend Hank Fisher!  Kate & David Hartwell were a big help as were Diane Larkin, Jane Colwell and Joshua Henrickson!  All of these helpers were a huge relief to Frank & I since it appeared we might be short-handed with the date change!!! God is so good, as are you dearest friends!

Our next turn to prepare and serve the meal at the spirit of hope soup kitchen will be on Saturday, april 21st.We will meet in our chapel parking lot at 8:20 a.m.  Ron Martinez, our favorite UPS Man, is already signed up to join us.  Hope you can sign up to come as well!  Please let us know if your plans change and you cannot come.  With much love and thanks always,  Amy 734-693-0694 & Frank 734-693-5904 Kohair

Do you want to help someone in need?  Hannah Thomas will be holding a clothing drive to help parents who have children in the Hematology/Oncology Clinic at Mott children’s Hospital. She will be collecting new underwear and pajamas for them.  Apparently many young children have accidents and / or get sick to their stomach after surgery or Bone marrow transplants. This often happens when they come to the clinic.  Many parents, especially those that have children over three don’t think to bring changes of clothing with them to the clinic.  Parents  have so much on their minds when this journey begins clothing is probably low on the list.  The nurses collect these items and give them out as needed.  They are only allowed to except new items as this is hospital policy.  To assist Hannah in this wonderful project, we will have a collection box set up in the hallway for you to put your items in.  This is a great project to get your own kids involved in.   Let them pick out some fun undies and pajamas to donate, from one child to another!

🎵 🎶 🎶  MUSIC NOTES  🎵🎶🎶 🎵

Choir and bell choir is up and running! Please consider joining, all are welcome and it is a fun and exciting environment to sing, ring, and explore the rich history of church music. Bell Choir rehearses Thursdays at 6:30, and Vocal Choir rehearses at 7:30 on Thursdays.

This morning’s musical point of interest: This morning we continue down our journey hearing Danish composer Carl Nielsen’s organ preludes, getting towards the end of the set! The choir sings a Romantic-era anthem by English composer John Stainer, who was much more popular in the 19th century than he is now. And at postlude we hear a piece by the prolific Dutch Renaissance composer Sweelinck. Sweelinck sets the piece in Dorian, which results in flat “mi” and “ti” pitches, and uses the swell and the great manuals on the organ to achieve an echo effect.

Upcoming Music Events:

March 17, 7:30PM: Come and hear the BGSU Graduate String Quartet in the Chapel!
