🎵 🎶 🎶 MUSIC NOTES 🎵🎶🎶 🎵
Choir and bell choir is up and running! Please consider joining, all are welcome and it is a fun and exciting environment to sing, ring, and explore the rich history of church music. Bell Choir rehearses Thursdays at 6:30, and Vocal Choir rehearses at 7:30 on Thursdays.
This morning’s musical point of interest: This morning we hear music from two important 20th century composers. The prelude is by French composer Darius Milhaud, who at the onset of WWII immigrated to Oakland, CA. His style was a combination of the sounds of French folk music and American jazz, resulting in very unique sounds. Flor Peeters was a Belgian organist and pedagogue who contributed much to the organ literature and playing techniques of the 20th century.
Upcoming Music Events:
May 10, 7PM: Celebrate the Ascension of Christ and St. James’ 150th Anniversary with a special evensong that evening! Featuring the St. James Choir and guests, as well as Doug and Carole Scott, this will be a moving night of music to remember! Music for the evening includes Byrd’s Preces, Responses, and Collects, Stanford’s Magnificat in G, and Bruckner’s Locus Iste. Don’t miss out!
May 19, 7:30PM: Our last music event of the year is going to be a blast, as violist Kalindi Bellach performs a recital of music by J.S. Bach, Shulamit Ran, and Paul Hindemith.
