FEATURES AND ARTICLES

Bottoms Up Diaper Drive

The Interfaith Council would like to thank everyone that contributed to the Bottoms Up Diaper Drive. The Drive was a huge success!  Because of your contributions many little ones will have dry, rash-free bottoms.  All the diaper donations were taken to Grosse Ile Presbyterian Church, where volunteers bundled them into sets of thirty diapers.  The bundles are then reboxed and taken to Fish and Loaves in Taylor.  Fish and Loaves is a community Pantry, that allows eligible people to shop in a store-like environment at no cost. The Taylor Fish and Loaves is one of the few facilities that provide diapers. Due to the high cost of diapers, children are often left in a soiled diaper all day.  The Interfaith Council is very proud to say that this project has provided diapers so many parents can now take their children to day care.  Without diapers, children may not attend a day care facility.

Please remember that this is an on-going project.  There is a basket in the hallway across from the office where donations may be deposited.  We also collect coupons and take monetary donations.

Again, a Big THANK YOU for all the donations.

Jane Colwell and Sue Lowery, Interfaith Council Reps

🎵 🎶 🎶  MUSIC NOTES  🎵🎶🎶 🎵

Choir and bell choir is up and running! Please consider joining, all are welcome and it is a fun and exciting environment to sing, ring, and explore the rich history of church music. Bell Choir rehearses Thursdays at 6:30, and Vocal Choir rehearses at 7:30 on Thursdays.

This morning’s musical point of interest: This morning we hear a prelude by the composer Frank Bridge, who was a superstar during his time in England. Although largely forgotten now, his music is still powerful and moving. His most enduring legacy of course was being Benjamin Britten’s teacher, who went on to be one of the most important composers of the 20th century. The postlude by Vierne is meant to imitate the effect of the carillon, an instrument consisting of a set of bells, usually in a bell tower, that tend to repeat a pattern of notes; a joyful noise!

 Upcoming Music Events:

May 19, 7:30PM: Our last music event of the year is going to be a blast, as violist Kalindi Bellach performs a recital of music by J.S. Bach, Shulamit Ran, and Paul Hindemith.

Summer Music Listening Classes begin in June. These classes last about an hour, during which we will talk about a significant composer of church music and listen to one or more major works. In June, classes will be held on the 7th and 14th at 7:30pm. All are welcome!
