A HOLY MOMENT OF THE WEEK

Send yours to goodnews@saintjamesgi.net

Dr. Joseph Brough is recognized at the Court of Honor Boy Scout event at Sacred Heart Church last night. His started Grosse Ile Troop 1261 in 1949 and was the first Scout leader. He is pictured here with Jackson and Will Shannon, grandsons of Linda.

Happy Father’s Day!

We Welcome Ray Stilwell, our guest organist for the next couple of weekends. He will be with us while Bobby is away in Romania participating in a conductor’s competition. Please also say a special prayer for Bobby’s safe travels (and that he wins!)

Prayer Ministry This Summer  will continue in the Chapel. They will be standing by the red entry doors to the front parking lot in the back of the chapel. If you would like to have prayer during communion, please feel free to see the prayer minister at that time. Due to the confines of the Chapel there will only be one prayer team member present each Sunday.

Capital Campaign projects begin this week! If you haven’t yet pledged, you can find information and pledge on line at saintjamesgi.net/cc150 . Thank you for pitching in generously!

Save the Float  We are in need of a place to store our beautiful Island chapel float to be used in future years. Please let us know if you have a pole barn or storage area to help.

Save the Weekend for 150th Events!  Our 150th Celebration weekend is right around the corner. Mark your calendar for the Celebration BBQ Picnic on Saturday evening, July 14th, and invite friends and neighbors to the Worship Service July 15th. These days will be remembered for years to come.

Free 8×10 Family Photos  To update our directory this summer we are bringing in LifeTouch, the company that does professional photos for schools and churches around the country. They will be here Friday, July 20, and Saturday 21. Each household gets 8-12 poses. Even animals are welcome! There will be sign ups after Sunday Services soon.  We would love to see 100% participation so that our 150th year can be recorded and documented.

Jesus Christ is the subject of our last two Thursday discussion group meetings of the year. We will spend one more week discussing St. Paul, and two weeks on Jesus. Drop in anytime during the month of June—meetings are Thursday afternoons beginning at 1:30pm.

Register for VBS online at www.saintjamesgi.net. Vacation Bible School is a free week-long day camp open to all members of Saint James, residents of the Island, and friends. Children from 3 years old to 5th grade participate in all activities, while older youth get to serve as helpers and leaders. All are welcome! Adults, we need your help too. Please speak to Nancy Crysler, our children’s ministries coordinator, if you are available to help. August 13-17, 9-11:30am.

The Next Soup Kitchen Will Be July 21st  Sign-ups will be on the Soup Kitchen bulletin board in the hallway between the Sunday School room and the Choir room.  Our Prep Crew will meet in our Chapel parking lot at 8:20am to load up they cars and head out. Servers should be at Spirit of Hope by 11:30am.  We will all be on our way home, or out to lunch, by 1:40pm.  The August 18th meal will be prepared and served by the Detroit Moose Hockey Team, so we will have it off.

Open Bible Study  A drop-in Bible Study runs every Sunday morning from 9:05-9:50AM in the Fireplace Room. The study requires no preparation, and you can come on whatever Sundays are convenient for you. Drop in any time!

Can You Help in the Office? Our secretary is taking vacation in July. Can you help cover the phones from 9am to noon on any of the following days: July 3, 5, 6, & 24. If so, please email Colleen in our church office at office@saintjamesgi.net

Coffee Hour Volunteers Needed   Can you take a turn volunteering in the kitchen during coffee hour? You would make the coffee and tea, bring a simple snack and cleanup. Coffee, tea, sugar, creamer, napkins/plates are provided. It is a great way to get involved at St. James. Ask someone to help you. There is a signup sheet on the table in Galloway Hall. Joan Hemsworth is available to show you the ropes.

Gluten-Free Wafers are always available at communion. Just ask.

Prayer at Communion is available every Sunday at the 10AM service. Prayer Team members stand at either side of the altar rail. After you receive the bread and wine, engage a prayer team member and ask for prayer of any kind, which they will offer on your behalf. Prayer requests are confidential.

Secretary Office Hours:  Colleen is in the office Tues-Thurs 9-2, &  Fri 9-noon.

Open Office Hours  Fr. Phil is available for appointments throughout the week for meetings of any length, but on Tuesday evenings you never need an appointment. Drop in any Tuesday between 4:30-6:30 pm and say hello

FEATURES AND ARTICLES

The ‘Just Because’ Program

Let’s add even more fun to the “Just Because” program.  A donor has provided tote bags like the one shown here, with the 150th logo displayed prominently on the front.  For awhile (until the bags run out), every adult who participates in accordance with the “Just Because” guidelines will win either a formal gift or one of these bags.  Envelopes 0-30 are set aside for kids and are therefore not eligible.
