A HOLY MOMENT OF THE WEEK

Send yours to goodnews@saintjamesgi.net

Bobby directing the wonderful Hand Bell Choir

An Altar Guild Luncheon   will be on today, at Noon.  It will be held at the Colony Clubhouse on Macomb Street.

Calendar Protocol   When needing something put on the events calendar, please always make sure to clear it with Colleen Herman in the office first!  There have been some issues of double booking as of late.  Please try to make sure your event is on the office calendar before it goes on the hall calendar!  Colleen does her best to try and coordinate calendars but it is always best to let her know yourself!

Strong Arms Are Needed    to help move the float to its resting place until next May. Plan to meet at church on Sunday, September 30, at 2pm. We will move the float to the back yard of an island residence. A minimum of 6 strong people are needed. Talk to Fr. Phil to learn more.

Our Music Minister, Bobby, is leaving at the end of September for a church of 800 in his home town. Please take the opportunity to thank Bobby for his great ministry among us. A letter from Fr. Phil and Bobby can be found on the resource table across from the office.

A Purse Is Being Collected for Bobby—a money gift to help him on his way. All gifts should be clearly marked, not only on the check but also on the envelope. Gifts can be made out to Saint James. They will be collected and given as a single gift of thanks from us all. The deadline to contribute is September 25.

Bottoms Up Diaper Bank Drive    Wants to thank  all who either donated diapers or gave a monetary gift to this season’s drive.  Your generosity is much appreciated.  For those who missed the drive, diapers and donations are accepted all year round. Thanks again. Sue Lowery and Jane Colwell

Sunday School  is for children up through 5th grade and begins this Sunday, September 16,  at the 10am service.  All children welcome.  Be prepared for a fun learning year!!  Any adult interested in teaching or assisting please contact Nancy Crysler.  The Registration link can be found on our website at saintjamegi.net

The Thursday Book Group meets at 1:30pm in the library. Our book is “The Screwtape Letters” by C. S. Lewis, a classic with over 3,000 five-star ratings on Amazon. The humorous and satirical narrative follows a series of letters from an elderly and experienced fallen angel, “Uncle Screwtape,” to his inexperienced nephew “Wormwood,” with advice on how to misguide the human to whom he has been assigned. Filled with insights into human folly, we nevertheless watch as the human becomes a Christian, falls in love, and finds eternal salvation. We will read the first section of this text together aloud on Thursday. (it’s an easy read.) Copies of the second chapter will be distributed. By the third week we hope people will have their own copy of the text.

We Have Posted our open Minister of Music position with the American Guild of Organists, their local chapters, and the Association of Anglican Musicians. Please begin praying for the next person called into this important worship leadership role. Also, feel free to share word of this employment opportunity with any musicians you may know. The Position Description can be found at www.saintjamesgi.net/Downloads/MusicMinister.pdf

Rummage Sale Set Up  Help with setup is always needed and appreciated.  If you can spare some time, please consider coming to help.  Setup will take place on Saturday September 29th from around 8:00am to Noon (coffee & donuts will be provided).  Setup will continue on Sunday September 30th after the 10 am service.

Operation Christmas Cookie  For the past two years we have been sending tins of homemade Christmas cookies to those listed on our Military Prayer List.  If you have a loved one who is in the military and is not currently on our prayer list, please contact Colleen Herman in the office with your loved one’s name and mailing address (we mail both state side and overseas).  If your loved one is already on the prayer list, please verify the current mailing address we have for them.  Recipients will receive a tin of delicious homemade cookies and a Christmas card from St. James.  If you have any questions, please give Sharon Metz a jingle at 734-626-1650 (cell) or 734-720-0710 (home).

Capital Campaign projects have begun. If you haven’t yet pledged, you can pledge on line at saintjamesgi.net/cc150 . Thank you for pitching in.

Prayer Ministry This Summer  continues in the chapel. If you would like prayers during communion, come to the back of the church by the red doors that lead to the front parking lot. In that small narthex the prayer minister will be glad to hear your needs and pray with you.

Open Bible Study  A drop-in Bible Study runs every Sunday morning from 9:05-9:50AM in the Fireplace Room. The study requires no preparation, and you can come on whatever Sundays are convenient for you. Drop in any time!

Gluten-Free Wafers are always available at communion. Just ask.

Secretary Office Hours:  Colleen is in the office Tues-Thurs 9-2, &  Fri 9-noon.

Open Office Hours  Fr. Phil is available for appointments throughout the week for meetings of any length, but on Tuesday evenings you never need an appointment. Drop in any Tuesday between 4:30-6:30 pm and say hello.

🎵 🎶 🎶  MUSIC NOTES  🎵🎶🎶 🎵

Choir and bell choir has started up! Please consider joining, all are welcome and it is a fun and exciting environment to sing, ring, and explore the rich history of church music. Bell Choir rehearses Thursdays at 6:30, and Vocal Choir rehearses at 7:30 on Thursdays.

This morning’s musical point of interest: Today we hear several organ pieces from in the French Romantic style by two titans of French organ literature, Franck and Dubois. Listen for the evocative harmonies and reedy registrations, hallmarks of this school of composers.

Upcoming Music Events:

The St. James Music Series returns in September!

Nov. 10, 7:30pm: The Organ in the Sanctuary.  A recital by Robert Ragoonanan featuring works by Willocks, Bach, Clérambault, and Franck.
