OUT THERE WITH OUTREACH: OCTOBER SOUP KITCHEN
As previously noted, the Spirit of Hope Soup Kitchen meal for Saturday, October 20th will be prepared and served by the Detroit Moose Hockey Team. Saint James and Sacred Heart will both have the day off.
Our next turn to prepare and serve the meal at the Spirit of Hope will be on Saturday, November 17th. We will leave our Chapel parking lot at 8:20 a.m.
With your help, we will offer a complete turkey dinner with all the trimmings! There are sign-up sheets on our bulletin board, to help with preparation of the meal, serving the meal, and to volunteer to donate, roast, slice and bag turkeys. Please bring your roasted, sliced and zip lock bagged turkey with you if you are able to come downtown to help with the meal. Please include the juice from the roasting so that we can make “real” gravy! If you cannot come, please write “Soup Kitchen Turkey & Juice” on the bag and put your turkey in the Soup Kitchen freezer in the back room. You are welcome and thanked whether you donate a breast or a full turkey, Patricia Saavedra and her mom Janet will be making pumpkin rolls for the dessert! Yummy!!! We will also appreciate individually wrapped candy to make poppers, with our Youth Groups for treats for the Holiday meals at Spirit of Hope as well as for Christ/Net in November. Left over Halloween candy works really well for this project!!! We will also need t.p. cardboard tubes, wrapping paper, tape and zip-ribbon to create the candy popper gifts for our guests!
We had a wonderful crew for the Spirit of Hope meal on September 15th! Dave Christie not only helped with the meal, he and Judy donated the 30 pounds of ground beef needed to make the taco soup for the meal! Also helping with the meal were Lori & Mark Ferguson and their two sweet little boys Reed and Crosby, Diane Larkin, Amy Paik and her daughter Meredith, Linda & Barry VanEngelen, and Beth and Paul Primeau. Thank you one and all!
Sacred Heart will prepare and serve the December 15th meal. We will have the day off.
If you have any questions about our volunteerism at the Spirit of Hope Soup Kitchen, please give us a call at 734-693-0694. Thank you so much & may God bless you.
Sincerely, Amy & Frank Kohair
