Volunteers helping make candy poppers for the soup kitchen!

Thank so much to all who donated food or volunteered to help. Volunteers are still needed on  Sunday, November 18th at 6:30 a.m. to help tear down, pack up, clean and/or go to the Laundromat to wash bedding. The more who volunteer the quicker the work is done. Thank you for your help!   Sue and Jane

The Men’s Bonfire  has been rescheduled for Nov. 16, 2018, from 7-10pm.  Hopefully we won’t be flooded out again!

The Spirit of Hope Soup Kitchen   Needs your help for our next meal on Saturday, November 17th.  We will leave the St. James parking lot at 8:20 There are sign-up sheets posted on the Soup Kitchen bulletin board to prepare the meal, serve the meal, and to donate, roast, slice and bag turkeys for the meal.  Also needed are leftover individually wrapped candy for the poppers which will be the gifts for our guests.  If you are a turkey donator, please press the air out of the zip-lock bag to avoid freezer burn.  Please label your bag if it is going into the Soup Kitchen freezer, or bring it with you if you are a volunteer for the day.   Thank you for any help you can offer.  With LOVE & BLESSINGS!  Always, Amy & Frank Kohair 734-693-0694  xoxo

Thank You To the Poppers Makers!  Who helped last week after the 10AM service. Those candy treats will be such a nice surprise to the patrons of the Spirit of Hope Soup Kitchen.

Greens Market   If you have Holly, Boxwood or Juniper bushes which need pruning, please hold off until the week before Greens Market work week so it will be fresh for us to use on special arrangements.

“The Greatest Early Christian Controversies” is the topic of the Thursday Book Group. After two weeks off for Thanksgiving and Greens Market the group will convene again on Thursday, December 6, in the library at 1:30. This series will not be a book but a video. At the start of the meeting we will watch a 25 minute video of the Duke Divinity School Professor of New Testament, Bart Ehrman Ph.D. With over 24 books to his name, including 4 New York Times bestsellers, Ehrman will speak on one controversy a week, afterwhich the group will discuss our opinions and reactions. The first two “controversies” have to do with Bethlehem being the place of Jesus’ birth and whether it is possible that Mary could have conceived as a virgin.

Home Baked Goods are Needed  for Greens Market.  Pull out your holiday recipes and consider baking something for THE GOODIES TABLE.  Any desserts, sweets, breads or preserves are most welcome!  Please drop them off on Friday Nov. 30th or the morning of the sale before 9:00am!

Help Set Up for Greens Market on Saturday Nov. 24. We really need the help of your arms and back to help us move tables and tarps. Set up starts at 9am. Please mark your calendars. We meet up in Galloway Hall. It won’t take long!

Greens Market Work Week:     Monday – Friday Nov. 26-30th, 9:00am – 4:00pm and 6:00pm – 10:00pm.  Blessing of the Greens/Open House = Friday Nov. 30th at 7:00pm.

Cookies for Incarcerated Youth are being collected for the holidays. If any of you wonderful women or men would like to bake an extra dozen when you’re doing your Christmas baking, it would be gratefully appreciated. There are six facilities that the cookies will be delivered to, and the two major facilities will have Christmas parties. There are 250 residents and about that many staff members. I (Sue Anderson) will be delivering them on December 11. You can leave cookies in the church kitchen on December 9 (a Sunday), 10, or 11. Just put “Sue Anderson” on the cookies so I know they are for this purpose. Remember, the incarcerated are “locked up but never locked out” of God’s love. Thank you in advance for your kindness. Some of these children have never had a homemade cookie. Blessings, Sue (734-558-7106
