A HOLY MOMENT OF THE WEEK
Send yours to goodnews@saintjamesgi.net A special thank you to Rev. Sally Boelter for leading us while Fr. Phil was away! |
Welcome Back Fr. Phil!!!
Ash Wednesday services will be held in our chapel on Wednesday, March 6, 2019, at 6:15am, 10?:15am, and 7:00PM. Mark a holy beginning of Lent with ashes & prayer.
Ashes To Go If you are unable to attend one of the services, Ashes-To-Go will be available to those who drive thru our front circle drive between 4-6:30pm. Fr. Phil will walk up to your car and give you ashes with a prayer.
St. James Music Series: The March 23rd event in our St. James Music Series has been cancelled due to conflicts with the scheduled performers. Fear not! Another excellent opportunity is available on the island the same weekend.
The Grosse Ile Chorale Lenten Concert titled “The Spiritual and Gospel Experience” by composer Stacey Gibbs will take place at Grosse Ile Presbyterian Church on Sunday, March 24, 2019 at 3:00 P.M. Our own Sue Hartley, Madeleine Jones, Collen Herman, and Jim Johnson are singing in this event. This is an event you will not want to miss. For more information speak with Jim, Colleen, Madeleine or Sue.
Bake Lenten Communion Bread We need volunteers to help us bake the communion bread used at the 8AM and 10AM services of Holy Eucharist. We can provide a recipe, or you can use one of your own. Bread should be dropped off in the main kitchen on Saturday morning by 10AM. Please contact Colleen in the office if you can help: office@saintjamesgi.net or 734-676-1727.
The Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper is an extravaganza of chocolate, sugar and friends, that is hosted by the Men’s Ministry Group and is scheduled for March 5, 2019 at 6:00 PM in Galloway Hall. Get in one last Hurrah before the start of Lent!
Salvation Army Soup Day Fundraiser, Wednesday, March 6, held at the Holiday Inn on Northline. For a $10 donation you may sample delicious soup provided by local restaurants. Let Dave Hartwell or Joan Hemsworth know if you would like to join us. We’ll car pool from St. James at 10:00 am.

The Pastoral Care Team will meet on Saturday March 16 at 10:00 AM in the Library. This meeting is open to current members of the Pastoral Care Team and anyone who wants to learn more about the ministry of bringing the Eucharist to our homebound parishioners. Please mark your schedule and watch for additional details as we get closer to this meeting.
Fleece and Thank You is a fundraiser for an amazing foundation that provides fleece blankets to kids who have to spend the night in the hospital. Hannah Thomas is hosting a spaghetti dinner on Sunday March 17, from 5pm-8pm in Galloway Hall to help this organization. Tickets are $10 and will be sold at the door. Any questions please contact Hannah at hannahthomas1216@gmail.com.
The Bottoms Up Diaper Project is really in need of diapers. The goal is to provide each family with 60 diapers a month. As of now, we are barely providing 60 every other month. Those of you that have generously donated before realize how costly diapers are and see why these families can’t afford them. Without diapers the children can’t go to daycare. Without daycare the parents can’t work. If you would like to donate diapers we have a box in the hall. Thank you, Sue Lowery & Jane Colwell
“Jesus Was An Episcopalian” is the name of the book that the Thursday Afternoon book group will be studying for five weeks. You can find copies of the first week’s readings on the resource table across from the office. For those who plan to continue, please buy the book written by Chris Yaw. The always-open group meets on Thursdays at 1:30pm in the library.
Open Bible Study A drop-in Bible Study runs every Sunday morning from 9:05-9:50AM in the Fireplace Room. The study requires no preparation, and you can come on whatever Sundays are convenient for you. Drop in any time!
Gluten-Free Wafers are always available at communion. Just ask.
Secretary Office Hours: Colleen is in the office Tue-Thur 9-2, & Fri 9-12.
WISH LIST
Send your write-ups about parish events to goodnews@saintjamesgi.net
- Do you have a “decent recent” computer you could donate to our new Minister of Music? Contact Jim at music@saintjamesgi.net
- If you have spent any time in our main kitchen, you probably know that our cutlery situation is not the best. We are down to about 60 forks, which isn’t enough for a large gathering.
We have been to a restaurant supply company and have chosen a pattern that we feel works well in Galloway Hall.
We are hoping that parishioners might offer donations to purchase one or two dozen pieces at the following prices.
Forks – $18.75 per dozen
Knives – $27.00 per dozen
Spoons – $14.00 per dozen
We are hoping to purchase at least 12 dozen of each piece.
Contact the office, or Lynda VanEngelen at 734-671-5735, if you can help out!

SPIRIT OF HOPE; OUT THERE WITH OUTREACH
On Saturday March 16th, Sacred Heart will do the whole day at Spirit of Hope. 🍀We will have the day off.
On Saturday April 20th we will do the whole day at Spirit of Hope. This will be the Easter Meal with Easter Sunday actually being the next day! Your help will be greatly appreciated! Sign-up sheets for this special meal are posted on the Soup Kitchen/Outreach bulletin board between the Sunday School room and the Choir practice room. What a lovely way to thank Christ for His great love and sacrifice for us. Sharon Metz is making sugar cookies! Sharron thought it would be nice too for us to make hard boiled & dyed Easter Eggs which were a big hit in the past!! Patricia Saavedra & Family have already volunteered! I will post a sheet for more Easter Egg volunteers. If we have tons, I can turn the spares into Deviled Eggs! Dave & Judy Christie are donating hams for the meal!!!
Here’s another thought… If you see children’s books celebrating Easter, please pick one up for the young kids who will come for the meal at Spirit of Hope. They get really excited about choosing and getting to keep books! I will put a basket under the Sign-Up Bulletin Board for the Easter Books (smiles between pages). Our Easter Saturday Meal will be a day of treats and celebration thanks to YOU! 🌼🐇🌸
With LOVE, Amy & Frank
