Lent 2— March 20—-Altar Guild

Lent 3— March 27— ECW

Lent 4— April 3——-Choirs

Lent 5— April 10——Vestry

First Communion– Any child in 2nd grade or older is welcome to attend prep classes and receive their First Communion on Sunday, May 12.  That is Mother’s Day.  Prep classes will begin on Sunday March 31 for 30 minutes after the 10:00 service in the library.  Contact Nancy Crysler if your child is interested.

Confirmation –Confirmation by the Bishop is every three years at St. James and 2019 is the year!  On Sept. 29, Bishop Gibbs will be officiating at St. James and confirming those  willing and eligible.  Any high school student who would like to explore the possibility of Confirmation this Sept. please let Nancy Crysler know.  We are also making it available to any future 8th grader this year  as well.  St. James has a number of mature 7th graders going into 8th grade in Sept.  Confirmation is a public affirmation of your belief in Christianity.  Even if you are not certain at this point of your beliefs, you are encouraged to attend the training to explore your faith.  You can make a decision after the training.  Confirmation classes will begin on Sunday Aug. 4 and run through Sept.  They will be held after the 10:00 service for an hour with lunch served.  Aug. isn’t the most convenient time for classes but we are subject to the Bishop’s schedule and we’ll work around yours.  Please consider this opportunity prayerfully.  It is a huge step in your spiritual growth.

Fleece and Thank You is a fundraiser for an amazing foundation that provides fleece blankets to kids who have to spend the night in the hospital.  Hannah Thomas is hosting a spaghetti dinner on Sunday March 17, from 5pm-8pm in Galloway Hall to help this organization.  Tickets are $10 and will be sold at the door. Any questions please contact Hannah at hannahthomas1216@gmail.com.

Upcoming ECW General meeting Will be held on March 17, 2019 after the 10:00 service.  Please plan on meeting in the fireplace room.  Every St. James Woman is welcome to attend!

St. James Music Series:  The March 23rd event in our St. James Music Series has been cancelled due to conflicts with the scheduled performers.  Fear not!   Another excellent opportunity is available on the island the same weekend. ( See below.)

The Grosse Ile Chorale Lenten Concert titled “The Spiritual and Gospel Experience” by composer Stacey Gibbs will take place at Grosse Ile Presbyterian Church on Sunday, March 24, 2019 at 3:00 P.M.  Our own Sue Hartley, Madeleine Jones,  Collen Herman, and Jim Johnson are singing in this event.    This is an event you will not want to miss.   For more information speak with Jim, Colleen, Madeleine or Sue.

Come and Help the ECW with their March 27th service project, “Come and Help St. James’s get Spring Ready!”.   This project will work on cleaning the St. James’s Kitchen and Nursery.  Volunteers are wanted and needed.  This will take place after Wednesday Lunch.

Be Sure To Check Out the 5th Sundays flyers on bulletin boards around the church.  After the 10 o’clock service on March 31, the first 5th Sunday in 2019, Saint James will be celebrating with a FREE “5th Sunday Bruncheon”, and you are invited.  Please save the date.

The Bottoms Up Diaper Project  is really in need of diapers. The goal is to provide each family with 60 diapers a month. As of now, we are barely providing  60 every other month. Those of you that have generously donated before realize how costly diapers are and see why these families can’t afford them. Without diapers the children can’t go to daycare. Without daycare the parents can’t work.  If you would like to donate diapers we have a box in the hall. Thank you, Sue Lowery & Jane Colwell

Our 8AM Services  are being recorded for the sake of those who are unable to attend worship due to illness, travel, or schedule conflicts.
Find the videos on our website: www.saintjamesgi.net.  Recordings begin this week.  Please address questions to Fr. Phil.

Open Bible Study  A drop-in Bible Study runs every Sunday morning from 9:05-9:50AM in the Fireplace Room. The study requires no preparation, and you can come on whatever Sundays are convenient for you. Drop in any time!

Wednesday Morning Services are at 10:15am in the chapel, in which we  remember the life of a saint and share Holy Communion. The service is followed by Coffee and Conversation.  Bring a dish to pass and enjoy some great conversation.

Gluten-Free Wafers are always available at communion. Just ask.

Secretary Office Hours:  Colleen is in the office Tue-Thur 9-2, &  Fri 9-12.

Open Office Hours Fr. Phil is available for appointments throughout the week for meetings of any length, but on Tuesday evenings you never need an appointment.  Drop in any Tuesday between 4:30 – 6:30 pm and say hello.

A Letter from Pat Zavadil:

Dear St. James Family,

I am so grateful for all you did for Jerry’s wonderful service.  You sent cards and food, you made cookies for the reception and served, and you came.  To be in the church and feel so much love is something I will always carry in my heart .
