Discuss The Bishop Candidates with your parish electors and Fr. Phil at a get-together on Tuesday, May 28, at 7pm. If you cannot attend, pull us aside and share your thoughts one-on-one. The election of a bishop is very important: please continue to pray for all the clergy and lay delegates of the diocese who will vote on June 1.

Parish Electors: Erica Benson, Gwen Dugliss, Wendy Kiblawi with Jim Holubka and Colleen Lough as alternates.

6th Annual Boat Cruise  All are welcome to our parish boat cruise on the Detroit River scheduled for Saturday, June 15th beginning at 7:00pm. Tickets are $20.00 for adults, and free for children 18 and under. Mark your calendars and get ready for another fun night on the river hosted by the St. James Men’s Group.

Table Talk Early polling results are in.  A number of you have shared with me that conversations across the church’s 6′ round tables in Galloway Hall are difficult.  Can you hear me now?!  LOL  In the coming months the church’s rectangular tables may be used to see what everyone thinks of them.  The 6′ and 8′ rectangular tables are a valuable resource at Saint James and serve many roles, but a few of you have said that you think that their plastic tops have a utilitarian look.  That may be true, but they seat 6 and 8 respectively, and 1 more at each end if needed or desired, and they are easy to talk across.  So, what is the answer?  If new tables for Galloway Hall should become a future discussion point there is an exciting table option that can be explored.  If you haven’t done so already, please let me know what your thoughts are about tables.  David Hartwell  dhartwell4@yahoo.com  313 318-9009

Confirmation –Confirmation by the Bishop is held every three years at St. James, and 2019 is the year!  On Sept. 29, Bishop Gibbs will be officiating at St. James and confirming those  willing and eligible.  Any high school student who would like to explore the possibility of Confirmation this Sept. please let Nancy Crysler know.  We are also making it available to any future 8th grader this year  as well.  St. James has a number of mature 7th graders going into 8th grade in Sept.  Confirmation is a public affirmation of your belief in Christianity.  Even if you are not certain at this point of your beliefs, you are encouraged to attend the training to explore your faith.  You can make a decision after the training.  Confirmation classes will begin on Sunday Aug. 4 and run through Sept.  They will be held after the 10:00 service for an hour with lunch served.  Aug. isn’t the most convenient time for classes but we are subject to the Bishop’s schedule and we’ll work around yours.  Please consider this opportunity prayerfully.  It is a huge step in your spiritual growth.

Service Recordings Our weekly 8am worship services are available online. Find them on our website saintjamesgi.net under the “Media” tab, or at youtube.com/user/saintjamesgi which is YouTube’s main site. Services are available live and for later viewing. This effort is especially for our sick, our homebound, Sunday School teachers, and others who cannot easily attend worship. Note, some 8am service attendees may briefly appear on video.

Fr. Phil is on Sabbatical leave from Monday, April 22 through Saturday, May 25. During this time we will have the opportunity to host four different priests—to hear their reflections and to be led by them in Holy Communion. Please keep Fr. Phil in your prayers in this time.

Leadership During Sabbatical is provided by our lay leaders and local clergy. For general needs contact our secretary Colleen Herman at office@saintjamesgi.net or 734-676-1727. Thank You!

Dear family,

Five weeks ago my life changed in an instant. And all of you were there. You covered me with prayers and love and support. I knew that I was cradled in prayer. Wendy and Madeleine were constantly at my bedside….reassuring me, advocating for me, comforting me.

We have a wonderful priest and pastor. When Madeleine called Father Phil late at night, he immediately drove to the hospital. He returned multiple times to both hospitals, Wyandotte and Detroit, even though it was the busiest church week of the year, Holy Week.  He was very generous with his time and deeply concerned; his pastoral care was excellent.

When I awoke, for a half a second I wondered why is this was happening to me. Then I flipped the switch and wondered… Why is this happening FOR me? Why has God opened this space in my life and created this? Not that God creates bad things,  but it is up to us to take what we are given and determine how we are going to walk in Christ….. no matter what happens. Sometimes things seem so overwhelming that we wonder how we are ever going to complete the task or get through the situation at hand.

The fact that I am  here today is by the sheer grace of God. It is a miracle. And I am very aware that there is a plan for me. I don’t know what it is, but I’m getting ready.  I am still in physical therapy three times a week. I know that I look like the same Colleen that you knew before any of this happened but… I am not.  I’m still healing. I ask for your grace, understanding, and continued prayers  during this time and in this process.

Because of the seizures I am unable to drive. Because I can’t drive I lost my job. And just when I began to worry about how I would pay my bills and the medical bills begin to come in , Nancy and Wendy organized a bake sale.  Your generosity has helped me financially as well. This is very humbling. Thank you.

Somehow thank you does not seem like enough. But… Thank you! Thank you for your financial support. Thank you for your emotional support. Thank you for being my shepherds. Thank you for being my family. Thank you for loving me.  I will be forever grateful for everything. I love you!

Colleen Lough
