A HOLY MOMENT OF THE WEEK

Send yours to goodnews@saintjamesgi.net

Can you find the cross in this picture of the workers digging holes for our new lamposts?  Don’t look too hard!

Happy Father’s Day!

This Saturday is Our Annual Boat Cruise!  It will take place on the Detroit River and is scheduled for this Saturday, June 15th beginning at 7:00pm. There will be a service of holy communion in Bishop Park at 6:00pm, prior to boarding the boat. Please gather at 5:30 to assure you are there in time for boarding. You don’t want to be left behind!

The Yellow Envelopes in the pews are for spontaneous gifts to the Capital Campaign. Over 50 households pledged to our 150th Anniversary Capital campaign, but others said they could not commit to a pledge of support. The yellow envelopes allow everyone to support the campaign projects by giving generously as you are able. To have your gift included on your end-of-year tax receipt from the church, please include your name and address.

Are You Interested In Being A Part of the Pastoral Care Team? If so, there will be a meeting on Saturday June 22, 2019 at 10:30am.  We will gather in the library for discussion and updates regarding our visitations and Fr. Phil will give us some training to enhance our ministry.  This meeting is open to anyone who might wish to join this ministry.  Thanks to all who are participating in this important outreach.

First Aid Kits have been created, stocked, and distributed around the building thanks to the great work of Mark Ferguson, Warren Johnson, and Sue Weston. Take a moment to find them—1) on the shelf behind the main altar, 2) on the coat rack by the main office, 3) in the kitchen by the sink, and 4) in the chapel sacristy by the piscina.

ChristNet Supporters:  We are pleased to announce that Gorno Ford has offered us an opportunity to make $6,000.00 which will be used for the kitchen at our new facility.  This is a free fundraiser!   Come to Gorno Ford in Woodhaven on June 20th anytime between 12-8 pm and  answer four questions, take a test drive of any car, respond to their email and ChristNet will get $20 per household. This should take you no more than 15 minutes!   We can have up to 300 drivers, which comes to $6,000.   Thank you for your continued support of ChristNet.

Diaper Drive  Thank you for your continued support of the Bottom’s Up Diaper bank.  The program has distributed over a half million diapers to downriver families at Fish and Loaves in Taylor.  The weekend of June 22 and 23 will be the annual drive on Grosse Ile for diapers.  Representatives from all the Island Churches will be accepting diaper/monetary donations at Kroger and in all island churches on Sunday the 23.  Please help make this year’s diaper drive a success.  The babies will thank you!

Read more about each of these roles and find the nomination form at www.tinyurl.com/diocese2019 or through our diocesan website. The deadline for nominations is June 27, 2019.

5th Sunday Summer funday will be Sunday, June 30 right after the 10 o’clock service.  Picnic lunch, fun and fellowship will be served. — K and D Hartwell  313-318-9009

If anyone knows what happened to the set of 1950’s paper dolls that were in the cabinet in Galloway Hall, please let me know.  We were planning to use them as a decorating theme when we re-decorate the ladies room. Thanks,  Lynda Van Engelen

Offering Envelopes Are Always Available on the table across from the office. Pick them up as you need them. Please be sure to fill out the little card found in each offering box to enable our Treasurer to associate your envelope number with your household.

“News & Updates” is a new section of our Good News Weekly, dedicated to brief write-ups of recent events or celebrations. The section can contain personal news, like births, graduations, retirements, and promotions, or church news about such things as evening speakers, improvements, thank-you’s, event recaps, etc. If you are hosting any church event, please send a write-up following, so people can keep up with all the wonderful things happening in our parish. Send NEWS to goodnews@saintjamesgi.net and check out the section, beginning on page 3.

Vacation Bible School is scheduled for August 12-16. The online registration will be available soon. Mark your calendars for this amazing parish wide event.

Share the Joy of Coffee Hour  Are you willing to prep the coffee before coffee hour and host by providing a snack? It would be a great help, as this is an entirely volunteer effort. Serving, cleanup and bringing light refreshments (Kroger cookies will do) is all that is necessary.  Please take a turn hosting this time. The signup sheet can be found on the table in Galloway Hall or see Joan Hemsworth.

Service Recordings Our weekly 8am worship services are available online. Find them on our website saintjamesgi.net under the “Media” tab, or at youtube.com/user/saintjamesgi which is YouTube’s main site. Services are available live and for later viewing.

Open Bible Study  A drop-in Bible study is held every Sunday morning in the Fireplace Room from 9:05-9:50AM. The study requires no prep and you can come on whatever Sundays are good for you. Come try it out.

Gluten-Free Wafers are always available at communion. Just ask.

Secretary Office Hours:  Colleen is in the office Tue-Thur 9-2, &  Fri 9-12.
