Have you heard about our new Prayer Shawl/Blanket Ministry? These blankets and shawls are handmade by women from St. James and are blessed by Fr. Phil for the congregation to give to any loved one, neighbor, etc. that they feel would benefit from healing prayers. The blankets and shawls are a physical comfort while the prayers bestowed on them offer spiritual comfort as well. The blankets and shawls are in gift bags and are located on the top shelf of the coat rack by the office. There is a folder that has a log in it for you to place the name of the person you will be giving it to as well as your name as the giver. Please do not include addresses or phone numbers, just the names. This will be a continuing ministry, so if we run out, be assured more are in the process of being made! If you can knit, crochet, sew, or just tie a knot, and you would like to participate in making them, please contact Sharon
The ECW wants to thank everyone for the donation of all the pinecones, but they have all they need for this year. Please do not bring any more pinecones! Thank you!

About the Anthem. Blessed Assurance Scripture References: all st. = 1 Pet. 1:8, 1 John 3:1-3 This text and ‘To God Be the Glory” (473) are probably the best known texts by Fanny J. Crosby. She said the following about her writing of the text: Sometimes a tune is furnished me for which to write the words. The hymn titled “Blessed Assurance” was made in this manner. My dear friend Phoebe Palmer Knapp (Mrs. Joseph), so well-known as a writer and singer of most excellent music and as an aid and inspiration to all who knew her, had composed the tune; and it seemed to me one of the sweetest I had heard for a long time. She asked me what it said. I replied, “Blessed assurance.” I felt while bringing the words and tones together that the air and the hymn were intended for each other -from Fanny Crosby’s Memories.
Crosby’s text and Knapp’s tune were published in John R. Sweney’s Gems of Praise in 1873. The hymn was also published in both the American and British editions of the Ira D. Sankey hymnals and was more recently featured in Billy Graham Crusades. It is an immensely popular hymn in English-speaking Christendom. Blessed Assurance” is a typical gospel hymn of the late nineteenth century. It is simple, truly evangelical in spirit, and has an emotional appeal that comes from its rousing tune and from the personal experience described in the text. It is a fine testimonial hymn of praise to Christ for his work of redemption (st. 1) and for the joy of serving Jesus (st. 3).
And did those feet in ancient time’ is a poem by William Blake from the preface to his epic Milton: A Poem in Two Books, one of a collection of writings known as the Prophetic Books. The date of 1804 on the title page is probably when the plates were begun, but the poem was printed c. 1808. Today it is best known as the hymn “Jerusalem“, with music written by Sir Hubert Parry in 1916. The poem was inspired by the apocryphal story that a young Jesus, accompanied by Joseph of Arimathea, a tin merchant, travelled to what is now England and visited Glastonbury during his unknown years. The poem’s theme is linked to the Book of Revelation (3:12 and 21:2) describing a Second Coming, wherein Jesus establishes a New Jerusalem.
An Invitation for all pianists and instrumentalists… If you would like to play one or more selections during the 10:00 A.M. worship service, please speak with our Minister of Music Jim Johnson. As an inviting and inclusive community of worshipers, we want to give those with musical gifts the opportunity to participate in worship in such a way.
