Everyone had a great time out last Friday evening at the Spaghetti Factory for dinner followed by the Toledo Mudhens ballgame on a b-e-a-u-tiful night! Thank you St. James Men’s Group for hosting!.

GET READY FOR A POTLUCK! ChurchFest is the start of our program year. Bring a dish to share on Sunday, September 10. We’ll have a festive potluck with fun for kids and the whole church. The potluck begins at 11:15am.

THE ALTAR GUILD’S 101ST ANNIVERSARY will be celebrated on Sunday, September 17th. For 101 years these faithful men and women have prepared the sanctuary for services of every kind. Thank you one and all!

THE NEW CLARK GARDEN will be dedicated on Sunday September 24th following the 10am service. Join us in the nook behind the chapel where all the new plantings are to be found.

SEAWAY CHORALE will be holding easy auditions starting Aug. 29 and going through the 2nd week of Sept.  They are preparing for their upcoming Christmas Show and would love for you to join them. Contact Colleen in the St. James office if you are interested!

SHOW AND SELL: THE GROSSE ILE ART ALLIANCE is looking for local artists to show and sell their work at the VFW on Macomb Street on October 6, 7 & 8. Entry information is on their website at grosseileartalliance.org.

THE GROSSE ILE BOAR’S HEAD FESTIVAL is a community celebration of Christmas with hundreds of parts  for individuals, kids, and families. You get to wear costumes, go to a few rehearsals, and participate in the biggest Christmas Pageant of your life. We have roles for shepherds and kings, attendants, beefeaters, choirs, angels, solos, dancers, and more! Plus, there are behind-the-scenes roles. Sign up at BoarsHeadGi.com/volunteer .

THE CHURCH BOOK GROUP has resumed meeting on Thursdays from 10:30am to noon. For this week’s meeting, please read pages 141-164. It’s a great book, entitled “Inspired” by Rachel Held Evans.

WEEKLY “SAINT’S STORIES” SERVICES are held in the chapel on Wednesdays at 10:15am. An optional potluck lunch follows.

DEDICATE SUNDAY FLOWERS in memory of a loved one, perhaps on the date they died or on their birthday. There are several open dates available on the Flower Chart for 2023 located in the hallway near the office. The recommended donation is $50, which covers two arrangements used at the 8am and 10am services. DID YOU KNOW……(from David Hartwell)

You can microwave corn on the cob!
Wet a paper towel, then wring it out so it’s still moist. Wrap the moist towel around the ear of corn and place it on a microwave-safe plate. Cook in the microwave until kernels are tender but still crisp when poked with a knife, 3 to 5 minutes. Carefully remove and discard paper towel before serving.
