HAPPY ST. JAMES DAY
ENJOY THE BBQ!

ENJOY A BBQ TODAY AT 11AM on the lawn, as the Men’s Group help us celebrate St. James’ Day!

VACATION BIBLE SCHOOL IS THIS WEEK! Pre-registration continues at saintjamesgi.net and we can also take walk-ups. Tell your kids they can invite their friends! ADULT HELPERS, contact Erin at 313-407-6249 or eshelton@gmail.com to volunteer. Thank You!

A MUDHENS BASEBALL OUTING is planned for August 24th. We’ll meet at church at 4pm to carpool, have dinner at 5pm at the Spaghetti Warehouse (free parking) and attend the 7pm game. The Men’s Group will be selling tickets on Sunday mornings. Also you can reach out to Burdett at burdett@milkins.com and 734-790-4942.

A CHURCHFEST POTLUCK is scheduled for Sunday, September 8. It is our kick-off to the program year! Bring a dish to pass as we enjoy our last outside service of the summer!

10AM SERVICES RETURN to the main church on September 15th .

OUR INDIGENOUS HISTORY is the topic of our next Steeple Chasers outing! We’ll gather at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church in Wyandotte on Wednesday, July 31, at 7pm. A local historian will speak on the Native American roots of Downriver, followed by snacks, refreshments, and fellowship.  As a courtesy to our hosts please RSVP to the church at 734-284-8777 or David at 313-318-9009 BY cell or text.

FREE CHRISTIAN BOOKS are available on the two white tables in the main hallway by the office. These books are being removed from the church library from lack of use, but many are fascinating! Take as many books as you want.

WISH LIST: A 70-INCH TV for the new media center in the library. We are upgrading our church library to make it a great place to watch videos for Sunday School, Youth Groups, Book Groups (we watch videos), and church movie nights. Have you been thinking about upgrading your home theater system? Would you like to donate something special? The donation is tax-deductible and would be a help for years to come.

A PURSE FOR JIM JOHNSON is being collected as a thank you for his 6 years of ministry at Saint James. You can write a check to “Saint James” and mark on a sticky note, the check, and/or the envelope that it is for “JIM’S PURSE.” We’ll pool the money and give him a single gift at a celebration later this summer.

WHAT IS A BLESSING BOX? It’s a 24-hour Food pantry, set outside of a building, where the hungry and needy can freely access food when needed. Saint James will be installing a blessing box in August on the north side of the building under the chimney. Look for the Blessing of the Blessing Box on Sunday, August 4!

COVID IS BACK ON THE RISE, so monitor your health and stay home if you feel ill. This variant is supposedly super-catchy and very unpleasant. If you get COVID we strongly recommend that you visit the doctor asap, as there are medications that may shorten the illness if taken early enough.

ICE CREAM SUNDAYS continue this morning after the 10am service! To help fill the cooler with ice cream, sign up on the signup sheet located just inside the main entryway.

OUR ANNUAL FINANCIAL AUDIT is continuing after the short illness and quick recovery of Charlotte Campeau. She has a few people who have volunteered to help, but the more that help the faster it goes. If she hasn’t reached out to you, please reach out again, as your number may have been lost during the delay.

LOOKING FOR SOMETHING FUN TO DO? Every Sunday night at 7pm there is a free concert on the commons until the end of August. End your weekend with wonderful music!

HELP WITH BRASS A group of people come to church on Thursday mornings to polish the church brass together. There is a rotation, so that a few things are done each week and everything is done once a month. It’s fun, helpful, and social. Could you help? Reach out to Diane Mammo or Gwyn Duglass. Thank you!

CAN YOU HELP MONITOR AND FILL THE BLESSING BOX? Please reach out to the office and we’ll make you a part of this select committee that is directly feeding the hungry.
