A Trip to The Holy Land is being arranged by the diocese for November 13-25, 2016 for roughly $3000 (cost depends on airfare). Fr. Phil has said he will participate in this trip if 5 Saint James’ parishioners sign up, and we just passed that threshhold. Let’s make this a Saint James’ Pilgrimage! Reserve a spot by sending a check for $300 made out to “Episcopal Diocese of Michigan” with “Pilgrimage” in the memo to: “Episcopal Diocese of Michigan, ATTN: Eric Williams, 4800 Woodward Ave., Detroit, MI, 48201”. An informational session on this trip is planned for September 21 at 7pm at St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church in Troy. All ages are welcome. Max # is 40.

The  Gospel  of Thomas  is being considered at our weekly Sunday morning Bible Study. This open, ongoing study, is available to anyone to join or leave as you like. The text of this gospel was discovered in 1945. It supposedly contains over 100 sayings of Jesus not found in the New Testament. Are they genuine? Help us decide. 9am Sundays in the Fireplace Room.

Music Rehearsals Begin on Thursday, September 10 at 6:30 pm with a pot-luck supper. This is for all bell ringers and singers, as well as any parishioners who want to consider joining a choir, or who simply want to see what goes on when we meet to sing and play to prepare to lead music in the liturgy. Bells will NOT rehearse on this night but will begin the following Thursday (Sept 17). Following a happy supper singers will meet for an opening rehearsal where we will prepare for the upcoming Sunday (outdoors) and start to taste some music of the onrushing year at Saint James. The Boar’s Head Festival/All-Island Christmas Pageant will be Dec 10 – 13 this year. Sign ups for cast and crew will be Monday September 28 from  6-9pm, Tuesday September 29 from  6-9pm, and Sunday October 4, from 1-5pm.  Choir rehearsals begin September 27^th.

Wednesday Evening Prayer in the Park to Continue through September due to popular demand.  Weather permitting, join other Downriver Episcopalians in Wyandotte’s Bishop Park at 6:30 each Wednesday.  Led by the Rev. Lynda Carter .

Learn About The Rich History Of The Bicycle on Sunday, September 20.  The Old Spokes Home of Grosse Ile, the building of bicycles at 8802 Macomb Street, will be open to the public from 9 am to 4 pm.  The owner is coordinating the opening to coincide with the Tour de Ile Bicycle Ride (www.tourdeile.com) being organized and hosted by the Rotary Club of Grosse Ile.

A Word From the “Reality” Department  Myth:  the economy is up, times are good.  Reality: the economy is up, more people take vacations, church attendance is down, and gifts received by the church are down.  As we all wind down the Summer and get ready for fall, please remember that we need to be mindful of catching up on our intended giving to St. James. The church’s utilities, programs, and all the costs of maintaining our great place of worship go on regardless of what is happening with the economy.  The treasurer’s office will soon issue interim statements so that each household can evaluate what they have given and make a plan for giving for the remainder of the year.  Faithfully, Curt Crysler, treasurer

The Little Blue Boxes  on the resource table across from the office are for the UTO, the “United Thank Offering” founded in 1889. An outreach ministry of the Episcopal Church, your UTO box is a reminder to stop and give thanks for the many blessings in our lives by placing coins or bills inside. Each year all the monies gathered are given away in the form of grants to meet compelling human need and support the mission and ministry of the church both locally and worldwide.  Pick up your blue and white UTO box on the table outside the office or in Galloway Hall. An On-going Bible Study is held each Sunday at 9 AM in the Fireplace Room.

Fr. Phil’s Open Office Hours are every Tuesday from 4:30-6:30pm. These are open drop-in hours, so you do not need an appointment. These meetings are usually 30 minutes or less. For a longer meeting please call or email ahead to schedule a time.

Join us for a Weekday Eucharist every Wednesday at 10:15 am in the chapel. Hear about a Saint’s life in the sermon and join us for a mini-potluck at 11am.
