The United Thank Offering Ingathering Continues Today Please return your blue boxes this Sunday. UTO envelopes are also available for donations of cash or checks made out to “St. James ECW” with UTO in the memo line. The money collected is used to provide grants both domestically and internationally for projects that help alleviate profound human suffering. UTO encourages us to deposit change or bills in our blue boxes year round as we give thanks for all of our blessings. Thank you, Wendy K. wendykiblawi@yahoo.com
EASTER TREATS – bring your favorite coffee cake, bread or decorated eggs for our Easter Coffee Hour!
First Communion has been moved to Sunday June 2. Prep classes are held after the 10am service, starting April 28th. Contact Nancy Crysler.
Five New Sunday School Teachers will alternate weeks starting today to teach the younger children, while a new class for older children will begin today. Several middle school and high school students have volunteered to serve as helpers in the classrooms. Thanks to one and all!
A Playroom for children after services and programs has been created with all kinds of fun toys and materials for kids. Its right across from the Sunday School room. We prefer kids choose to play there instead of the Sunday School room “after hours”.
“Jesus Of Montreal” Is Our Holy Wednesday Movie this year. An evening prayer service begins at 6:30pm in the chapel. The movie begins at 6:45. A pizza dinner is provided.
An All-Night Vigil is held in the chapel Maundy Thursday night and Good Friday morning. Two spots are available each hour. Will you watch and wait with Jesus? The sign-up sheet can be found by the office.

Meet The Bishop Candidates at one of the “Walk Abouts” that have been planned by the Diocese: Friday, May 17, 7:00 PM at the Cathedral Church of St. Paul, Detroit; Saturday, May 18, 4:00 PM at All Saints’, East Lansing; Sunday, May 19, 3:30 PM at St. Clare’s, Ann Arbor. Our electors are Wendy Kiblawi, Erica Benson, and Gwyn Dugliss, with Jim Holubka as our alternate. You are invited to engage them in conversation about your hopes for the next bishop. The electing convention will be held on June 1, 2019.
Ladies of St. James…. …..it’s time again for the annual ECW annual dinner. The dinner will be held on Sunday, May 19th at the Grosse Ile Golf and Country Club at 6:00 p.m. Please remember that you don’t need to join the ECW, if you attend St. James, you are automatically a member of the ECW, so please consider attending. It’ a great way to meet more of our wonderful ladies. We will have a short meeting and present the “Woman of the Year Award”, have dinner and do lots of socializing. The registration forms will be coming out this week. Looking forward to seeing all of you.
Confirmation –Confirmation by the Bishop is every three years at St. James and 2019 is the year! On Sept. 29, Bishop Gibbs will be officiating at St. James and confirming those willing and eligible. Any high school student who would like to explore the possibility of Confirmation this Sept. please let Nancy Crysler know. We are also making it available to any future 8th grader this year as well. St. James has a number of mature 7th graders going into 8th grade in Sept. Confirmation is a public affirmation of your belief in Christianity. Even if you are not certain at this point of your beliefs, you are encouraged to attend the training to explore your faith. You can make a decision after the training. Confirmation classes will begin on Sunday Aug. 4 and run through Sept. They will be held after the 10:00 service for an hour with lunch served. Aug. isn’t the most convenient time for classes but we are subject to the Bishop’s schedule and we’ll work around yours. Please consider this opportunity prayerfully. It is a huge step in your spiritual growth.
Fr. Phil Will be on Sabbatical Leave from Monday, April 22 through Saturday, May 25. During this time we will have the opportunity to host four different priests, to hear their reflections and to be led by them in Holy Communion. Please keep Fr. Phil in your prayers in this time.
Open Bible Study A drop-in Bible Study runs every Sunday morning from 9:05-9:50AM in the Fireplace Room. The study requires no preparation, and you can come on whatever Sundays are convenient for you. Drop in any time!
Wednesday Morning Services are at 10:15am in the chapel, in which we remember the life of a saint and share Holy Communion. The service is followed by Coffee and Conversation. Bring a dish to pass and enjoy some great conversation.
Gluten-Free Wafers are always available at communion. Just ask.

Table Talk The inspiration for the family style seating arrangement at the 5th Sunday Bruncheon on March 31 came from old church photographs of people gathered around rectangular tables in Galloway Hall. It occurred to us that if we used the church’s 8′ rectangular tables instead of the church’s 6′ round tables that conversations would be easier, more people could be seated more comfortably, there would be more flexibility for creative table/seating arrangements, and handling would be easier as well. And it was. Fellowship at the 5th Sunday Bruncheon celebration was embraced by all who attended, and many stayed long after all the food was eaten!!! LOL Perhaps it is time to take a page from the church’s past and reconsider rectangular tables for Galloway Hall. Feel free to let David and Kate Hartwell know what you think.
