HAPPY EASTER May your Great Fifty Days be joyous!
The Bishop is Coming! Make sure to be in attendance on Sunday, April 24, for the bishop’s triennial visitation, which will include CONFIRMATION of our teens: Griffin Barton, Andrew Ador Johnson, Warren Johnson, William Johnson, Abbey McNeill, Emma Rankine, Tommy Shumate, and Hannah Thomas.
ONE SERVICE FOR THE BISHOP’S MORNING The bishop has asked that all Saint James’ members gather together in one service “signifying the oneness of the church, in the presence of a bishop, the sacramental person charged with guarding the church’s unity.” We gather at 10AM on Sunday, April 24.
IMPORTANT: For lay people there are three key actions that can happen only in the presence of a bishop: Reaffirming Your Faith; being Received Into The Episcopal Church; and Confirming The Faith Of Your Baptism. These three actions for adults will happen at the bishop’s visit on April 24. To do any of the above you must inform Fr. Phil of your intention and attend a two-hour preparation class on either Wednesday, April 20, from 6:30 to 8:30pm, or Saturday, April 23, from 1:30 to 3:30pm. The class will be led by Fr. Phil. We will discuss the heart of Christianity, and engage your thoughts and questions about living a life of faith.
No Sunday School April 24 so the children can experience worship with the Bishop, and see the teens being Confirmed. If you have children in your household consider sitting up front. Being closer to the action is more engaging for children and adults alike.
Baptisms Sunday, May 15 is Pentecost and a day of Baptism in all Episcopal Churches. To inquire about a baptism, speak to Fr. Phil or call the church office.
Our Annual Detroit Riverboat Cruise June 11th. The cruise will be catered this year! Like last year an informal Saturday Communion in the Park will be held just before the boat trip begins.
Join The Pastoral Care Committee to adopt a homebound parishioner, visiting them every week or two, bringing a bulletin and communion. This group is also the core of the emergency prayer chain, which is activated in times of immediate need. Contact chair Marie Johnson mariewarrenj@comcast.net or Fr. Phil.
A Saint James’ Clean-Up Day is scheduled for Sunday, May 15th after church. Wear work clothes to church and bring gloves, rakes, shovels, etc. Our goal is to spruce up the grounds for the sunny months that are coming. We’ll be spreading mulch and other outdoor tasks. If you prefer to help by making a simple meal for the workers, please speak to Fr. Phil or contact us in the office.

What is a Green Burial? Today we typically hand over the body of our loved ones to professionals. But this was not always the case. It is legal and possible to care for your loved one yourself, after their death. Fr. Phil is asking parishioner volunteers to attend an informational session about home death care and green burial and share what you’ve heard. The 90-minute program is being held at Ann Arbor’s Canterbury House on Earth Day, April 22 (Friday), from 7-8:30pm. Find out more at afterdeathhomecare.com. If you can do this, please notify Fr. Phil.
We Continue To Collect Diapers for the “Bottoms Up.” Diapers and coupons can be placed in the box in the hallway. Contact Jane Colwell (734-671-9446) or Susan Lowery (734-675-0417) with questions or to make a monetary donation.

Beginning and ending with centering prayer, most of the time is spent discussing the reading selection on Faith, by such authors as Thomas Aquinas, Ghandi, C. S. Lewis, Augustine of Hippo.
A Weekday Eucharist focused on the life of a saint is held every Wed. at 10:15am.
Fr. Phil’s Open Office Hours are every Tuesday from 4:30-6:30pm.

🎵 🎶 🎶🎵 MUSIC NOTES 🎵🎶🎶 🎵
A Weekly Series by Daniel Susan, our Minister of Music
This week we continue our ongoing Easter celebration with the day often nicknamed “Good Shepherd Sunday” because of the Gospel reading of John 10 which has been read on a Sunday after Easter since the early Church. Psalm 100 also speaks of our shepherd: “We are his flock and the sheep of his pasture” so we will sing a famous hymn paraphrase of that Psalm that left its name with the tune “Old Hundredth” (did you know that hymn tunes have their own names apart from the text?). Some of the earliest Christian images of Jesus Christ are images of him as a shepherd, and those showing him as the all-powerful ruler and King tend to be from a later time. Psalm 23 is likely the most beloved of all the Psalms, being chosen by the family and sung at most of the funerals I have played in my 39 years of serving at these liturgies. As a further expression of the shepherd and “us sheep”, we will also hear the sublime “Pastorale” by J. S. Bach, where he uses the gentle 6/8 rhythm traditionally associated with pastoral scenes when portrayed in music. This week we should feel blessed to “be a sheep”!
