The Gospel of Thomas is being considered at our weekly Sunday morning Bible Studies. This open ongoing study is available to anyone to join or leave as you like. The text of this gospel was discovered in 1945. It supposedly contains over 100 sayings of Jesus not found in the New Testament. Are they genuine? Help us decide. 9am Sundays in the Fireplace Room.
A Good Used Car is needed by a parishioner. If you can help please contact the office at office@saintjamesgi.net or (734) 676-1727. Thank you for your help.

A word From the “Reality” Department Myth: the economy is up, times are good. Reality: the economy is up, more people take vacations, church attendance is down, and gifts received by the church are down. As we all wind down the Summer and get ready for fall, please remember that we need to be mindful of catching up on our intended giving to St. James. The church’s utilities, programs, and all the costs of maintaining our great place of worship go on regardless of what is happening with the economy. The treasurer’s office will soon issue interim statements so that each household can evaluate what they have given and make a plan for giving for the remainder of the year. Faithfully, Curt Crysler, treasurer
The Little Blue Boxes on the resource table across from the office are for the UTO, the “United Thank Offering” founded in 1889. An outreach ministry of the Episcopal Church, your UTO box is a reminder to stop and give thanks for the many blessings in our lives by placing coins or bills inside. Each year all the monies gathered are given away in the form of grants to meet compelling human need and support the mission and ministry of the church both locally and worldwide. Pick up your blue and white UTO box on the table outside the office or in Galloway Hall. The fall ingathering (box collection) will take place in November. In gratitude for God’s grace, let’s give generously- our change truly can change lives. Thank you, Wendy Kiblawi
Check our Coat Racks for any items that might belong to you. Items still there by the end of September will be sold in the Rummage Sale.
Our Next Rummage Sale is Oct 2 and 3. We begin collecting rummage on September 14th. Please begin setting things aside at home to bring next month.
Join us for Coffee and Conversation after the 10am Service in Galloway Hall.
Follow us on Facebook at www.facebook.com/saintjamesgi for updates.
An On-going Bible Study is held each Sunday at 9 AM in the Fireplace Room.
Fr. Phil’s Open Office Hours are every Tuesday from 4:30-6:30pm. These are open drop-in hours, so you do not need an appointment. These meetings are usually 30 minutes or less. For a longer meeting please call or email ahead to schedule a time.
Join us for a Weekday Eucharist every Wednesday at 10:15 am in the chapel. Hear about a Saint’s life in the sermon and join us for a mini-potluck at 11am.

“Holey Moment of the Week?”Last Saturday 21 members of Saint James were Puttin’ on the Green at Sportway of Brownstown. The teams came up with cute names like the Hole In Oners led by Joan Hemsworth, the Fantastic Four led by Matt Drake, the Furious Five led by Sylvia Booth, The 4 Holy In Oners led by Rhonda Boitkus, and The Brandons led by Brandon Blanton and Brandon Dinwiddie. There were a number of players who scored 1 hole in one, but Ed Boitkus and Steven Bentley each scored 2 holes in one! The maximum number of strokes allowed on any hole was 6, and there were some of the players who got their money’s worth on those holes!
After the round of miniature golf we gathered for a delicious lunch of pizza and salad. After lunch it was time to draw the names of the lucky winners of prizes which included certificates from Sportway of Brownstown, Jet’s Pizza in Trenton, and Grosse Ile Recreation Department for golf and foot golf! The generosity of these donors is very much appreciated and we at Saint James should do all we can to patronize them in the future.
On Sunday after the 10 o’clock worship service some of you may have enjoyed the leftover pizza and salad and pop from Puttin’ on the Green. Thank you Sue, Liz, and Jack Hartley for hosting the coffee hour, allowing us to share the with members of Saint James, and for providing the wonderful selection of donuts and cookies and cheese and crackers and grapes. – David Hartwell
