Please sing up at: https://booknow-lifetouch.appointment-plus.com/ydhb6n4y/.  If no new picture was taken please make sure we have your correct information by using the link on our webpage.  Deadline for this is Sept. 1.

Kroger Community Rewards has assigned Saint James a new account number. (RU510)  If you are currently enrolled in the Rewards program, this does NOT affect you.  However, if you are not part of Community Rewards and wish to join, (all it takes is your Kroger’s Plus card), you can enroll by going to www. kroger.com. Click on Savings and Rewards, next click on Community Rewards from the list, then follow the instructions on how to enroll. Search for either this new organization number or Saint James Episcopal Church, Grosse Ile when prompted.  If you have questions, contact Lynn Blanks, 676-3967.

A Fake Email Message  supposedly from Fr. Phil is circulating. The email requests that you write a check for Fr. Phil, but it not real. The email address is an AOL account that is not affiliated with the church. Whenever you receive such a message you should contact Fr. Phil on his cell phone by voice or by text (at 734-775-7140 — add this to your contacts now) before taking any action. If you received one of these messages and sent money, please let us know so we can discuss next steps.

Churchfest Sunday  A church picnic is planned following the 10 am service on Sept. 9, 2018.  Bring a side dish to share and maybe a friend. We’ll also have a bouncy house for the kids.  It will be wonderful day of celebration.  Mark your calendars!!

It’s not too late to try ALPHA. The ALPHA program will run at Saint James this fall with one group meeting on Wednesday evenings and another on Friday mornings. Each program starts with food provided, segues to a 30 minute video presentation on a question of the faith (What is prayer? How does Jesus forgive sins? Etc), and concludes with time in a small group to discuss reactions and questions to the video and the theme. Check out grosseilealpha.com to find out more and to register.

Altar Guild Luncheon   Have you been looking for a way to serve at St. James? Members setup and cleanup for each service. Once every 2-3 months Teams of 2 clean brass & silver, etc..  A committee alternates months caring for linens. A three month schedule is made out, but you are always free to switch your assigned date with another member.  RSVP to Linda Kurth (675-1506) by September 17.  This invitation is for all current members and especially anyone who would like to join Altar Guild!

VBS—BIGGER THAN EVER

It’s been another successful week  of St. James VBS this year with a record of 88 kids attending including our youth helpers.  With the theme being, “Jesus, our Super Power”  there was indeed some super power in the air.  Super Star, Father Phil, led us all in song and motion,  inspiring teachings and created the amazing video (see it on line from the St. James web site).  The famous snack time including the ever coveted corn bread was led by Sue Lowery (and generously donated by her) with assistants Michael Glover, Amy Paik, and Mary Jo Brough.  Dr. Malcolm Williamson donated the biggest, juiciest watermelons and assisted with the groups.  Group leaders who were challenged to guide  each age group of children were:  Jane Colwell,  Collie Hooper-Yan, Kim Faistenhammer, Erica Benson and Charlotte Glover. Science group leader was Madeleine Jones.  Games coordinator was Avery Lewis.  And craft coordinator was Nancy Crysler.  Libby Dinwiddie worked in registration and was the photographer of the fab photos.  Each child took home a photo of themselves “flying through the air” like a superhero, cape and all.  Lynda VanEngelen handled registration, subbed as a group leader and helped wherever she saw a need.  Joan Hemsworth assisted in crafts and also wherever she saw a need.  Pre-VBS “Dinner and Crafters”  were: Sharon Metz, Lynda VanEngelen, Jane Colwell, Joan Hemsworth, Mel Bonis, Kim Faistenhammer and Madeleine Jones.   Staffers, Colleen and Harold helped with registration and cleaning.  Our youth helpers with their enthusiasm rocked it as well.  They were:  Meredith Paik,  Zoie Christie with friend Abbey, Charlotte Glover began as a youth helper and evolved to group leader, veteran youth helper, William Johnson, Doug Johnson, Monica and Delaney Arndt, Elise Buhl with friends Vivian and several others, Sami Bohl, Maddy Glover, Austin Saavedra, Sydney and Mallory  Botten,  Nolan Barron, Josh Dubnicka, Ella Gatti, Anna Shumate, Tommy Shumate and Sarah Hemsworth.  This “village” created some amazing memories for our kids and taught some truths about our “Super Hero Jesus” for all eternity.  Thanks to all.      Nancy Crysler
