Congratulations to St. James actress, Evelyn Howes!! The GI High School play, “It’s a Wonderful Life” was excellent!! Talented Evelyn played two characters, Mrs. Martini and Bert.
Painter Pete finished up the process of repairing plaster in the Fireplace Room and by the North Doors. Thank you!

Seaway Chorale Concert this weekend!!!

Sunday, December 17, at 5pm the Seaway Chorale will be here in the main sanctuary to sing a portion
of their main Christmas concert they just performed earlier in the month.  Come and leave your stress at the door!  Enjoy an
hour of Christmas music sure to have you humming in your seat!!

GREENS MARKET LUNCH THANK-YOU’S
A SPECIAL Thank You to all the cooks that provided lunches for the crowds of people who came to help out at the Greens Market!
MONDAY– Charlotte Campeau made, Turkey noodle soup, French Onion soup and Hungarian vegetable soup, along with Chicken Salad and rolls. Judy Christie provided the orange jello.
TUESDAY – Linda Kurth made Goulash.  We also had Garlic Bread, I made the Cranberry Jello and a Toss Salad.
WEDNESDAY – Lori Ferguson provided Mostaccioli, Toss Salad and Rolls, I made a fruit Salad.
THURSDAY – Heather DePaul brought in Baldo’s Pizza and Toss Salad and I made the Lime Jello.
FRIDAY – Judy Christie made  the Sloppy Joes, Pasta Salad and a Strawberry Pretzel salad.
SATURDAY – I made the Hot Dogs and Baked beans, we also had left over pasta salad and chips.
Kitchen help included Liz Hartley, Mary Lou Cartwright and Judy Christie.  We regularly served around 40-45 people, including the night shift.
Also a Special THANK YOU to everyone who brought in Desserts for us to share for the week. I’m looking forward to planning lunches for the Spring Rummage Sale. If you think you would like to provide a lunch (all expenses reimbursed) during the Rummage Sale, please reach out to me.

FRIDAY FILL-UP EXPANDS!  
St. James Church partnership with Grosse Ile Schools continues to expand!  Our service project helps with childhood hunger on weekends.  We began in October with 6 children and are now at 10! We continue to need donations that are in “individualized serving containers” as all food item are sent home with students in a backpack.  We are in need of peanut butter and jelly in small size jars, milk in cardboard cartons that do not need to be refrigerated, soup, mac + cheese, cereal boxes, fresh fruit, etc.  Backpacks are assembled Friday morning in the small kitchen for delivery at 10:30 am.  Feel free to contact Mary Ann Danville.

CHARLES DICKENS IS COMING to Saint James on Saturday, December 23, at 7pm in our historic chapel. Come and see our own Mark McPherson transform in character into Charles Dickens in a short two-act performance sure to get you into the Christmas Spirit. There’s no cost of admission, free-will donations will benefit the Friday Fill-Up Backpack project. Supported by the Men’s Group and ECW.

A “BLUE CHRISTMAS” ISLAND-WIDE SERVICE is being hosted this year at Grosse Ile Presbyterian Church. Fr. Phil will offer the meditation. This service is for those who are feeling grief and saddness in the Christmas season, particularly if you are mourning the absence of those you love. The service will be held on Wednesday, Dec 20, at 4:30pm.

SUNDAY SERVICES ON DECEMBER 24 HAVE BEEN REDUCED to one service because the date is also Christmas Eve. On that morning we will hold one “4th Sunday of Advent” service in our historic chapel at 10am.

THE 4PM CHRISTMAS PAGENT is open to ALL CHILDREN, even at the last minute! Please come to church 30 minutes early at 3:30, so we can coordinate roles. All children are guaranteed a role, as there can never be enough angels or sheep!

ANNUAL REPORTS ARE DUE in the office by Wednesday, January 10. If you lead or coordinate any Saint James ministry, program, offering, or event, please share the Who, What, When, Where, Why, and RESULT in a report fit for printing. Sharing names, thank-you’s, and how your program is helping the Kingdom of God to come near is welcome!

THE ANNUAL MEETING OF THE PARISH is scheduled for Sunday, January 28, at 11am in Galloway Hall. This is a celebration of our past year and a looking-forward to what God is calling us to accomplish this year. We will also elect officers and bestow the Alice Award, so don’t miss it!

NEW VESTRY MEMBERS WILL BE ELECTED at our annual meeting on January 28. Please consider whether you may feel called to help guide the ministries and future of Saint James. Vestry terms are 3 years, the group meets once a month. You don’t need to have all the answers, just a willingness to listen, discuss, and help-out as needed.

IF ACTIVE MILITARY are a part of your family, please put a photo of them on the main hallway bulletin board by the office. Every time we see them we will pray for them!

THE CHRISTNET WARMING SHELTER is returning to Grosse Ile on  January 21-28. We feed the Downriver homeless and give them a warm place to sleep. Volunteers from the island churches provide dinners and nightly supervision. St. James will be providing the dinner and supervision on Monday. There will be sign up sheets for food and supervision times in the hallway next week. Sue Lowery, Interfaith Council Rep, 734-771-2503.
