COMMITMENT SUNDAY is this Sunday, February 11. Please bring your completed Capital Campaign pledge cards to the service to be counted and blessed. Alternatively, you could use the on-line pledge card at www.saintjamesgi.net/cc150 or mail your commitment card to the church at 25150 East River, GI. It is important that everyone participate in this effort to renew our chapel, building, and grounds. This facility gives us so much, this is our chance to give back.

Private Confession is always available in the Episcopal Church. Lent is an especially good time to consider making a confession. Falling under the category of “All may, some should, none must” Confession is usually undertaken by a person who is entering a new phase of life or who is having a hard time feeling forgiven or who is feeling a particular desire to clean the slate. To schedule a private confession contact Fr. Phil at rector@saintjamesgi.net or 734-775-7140.
“Great Figures of the New Testament” is the topic of the Thursday afternoon discussion group. We meet in the Library at 1:30 p.m. to watch a 30 minute presentation on a great New Testament figure and then discuss. All are welcome.
“Just Because” Envelopes The colorful envelopes located in the church vestibule are there for that special time when you just want to give a little extra to the church. Choose an envelope by number and put that much into the envelope. Certain numbers are even associated with prizes!
Prayer at Communion is available every Sunday at the 10AM service. Prayer Team members stand at either side of the altar rail. After you receive the bread and wine, engage a prayer team member and ask for prayer of any kind, which they will offer on your behalf. Prayer requests are confidential.
A Sunday Morning Bible Study runs between services every week from 9:05 to 9:50 AM in the Fireplace Room. Led by Fr. Phil with lots of space for discussion, this open study is a great for increasing knowledge and faith.
Open Office Hours Fr. Phil is available for appointments throughout the week for meetings of any length, but on Tuesday evenings you never need an appointment. Drop in any Tuesday between 4:30-6:30 pm and say hello!

Dear Spirit of Hope Soup Kitchen Volunteers: IMPORTANT NEWS!
I had a call from Derek Fowler, leader of the Detroit Moose Hockey Team yesterday. He asked if we could take care of the February 17th Spirit of Hope Meal and they would do the March 17th Meal instead of us. They have a hockey tournament on Feb. 17th and this TRADE would be a BIG Help for them! Actually this swap would be a big help for Saint James!!!
A corned beef and cabbage dinner is planned for Saint Patrick’s Day at church and this was going to cause a conflict of refrigerator space with our soup kitchen supplies and the corned beef dinner supplies! It was also going to create an extra-long day to help and participate in both events. Now there will be breathing space. I hope that those of you who signed up for the March 17th meal will be able to help with cooking, set-up, and the serving of the February 17th Spirit of Hope Meal instead. I have posted new sign-ups on the Soup Kitchen bulletin board. Please check in and let us know if this date swap works for you! We will meet in our Chapel Parking Lot at 8:20 a.m. on Saturday, February 17, 2018. The first crew will be home before noon. The 2nd shift of servers will need to be at Spirit of Hope (corner of Trumbull & Martin Luther King) by 11:30. You will be on your way home by 1:45 p.m. Please contact us asap if you have signed up and cannot attend. Sorry about the change but thank you so much for your flexibility! Sincerely, Amy Kohair 734-693-0694 and Frank Kohair 734-693-5904
United Thank Offering (UTO) benefits programs that address compelling human needs by supporting the alleviation of poverty, both domestically and internationally, within the Episcopal and Anglican provinces, dioceses, and companion dioceses. 47 grants were awarded in 2017 totaling $1,169,969.55. All of this is possible because of the prayerful generosity of participants in UTO. Remember that each donation is given in gratitude for a blessing, and UTO simply passes that blessing along through its grants. St. James generously donated $730.00 to United Thank Offering last year. In 2018 our “Ingathering” Sunday will be March 11th. Please return your blue boxes or if you would like to participate by donating cash the loose plate offering will be given to UTO on that Sunday. UTO envelopes are also available anytime and checks made out to St. James ECW with UTO in the memo line are happily accepted. Questions? Wendy K. 248-476-0265

🎵 🎶 🎶 MUSIC NOTES 🎵🎶🎶 🎵
This morning’s musical point of interest: : The anthem today is by Samuel Wesley, a notable church composer from the 19th century. His style is very conservative, relying on chord progressions and voicings that are elegant and simple rather than the complex chromaticism of his contemporaries. The postlude today is by the now 100-year-old composer and organist from England, Francis Jackson, who wrote this piece back in 1961.
Upcoming Music Events:
(Notice a change in Date!)
Febuary 24, 7:30PM: Come and hear Piano Trio music with Yi Chieh Anita Chiu, Violin, Jon Moody, Cello, and Robert Ragoonanan, Piano in Galloway Hall! Featuring works by Ludwig van Beethoven and Cécile Chaminade.
