TRANSFIGURATION
SUNDAY!

ASH WEDNESDAY is THIS WEDNESDAY, February 14. We will hold services in the chapel at 6:15am, 10:15am, and 7pm. Don’t miss this moving start to Lent.

ASHES-TO-GO will be available in the front circle driveway of church from 4-6pm. Don’t park. Just drive up and Fr. Phil will say a brief prayer for you, impose ashes on your forehead, and give you a blessing.

THE SHROVE TUESDAY PANCAKE SUPPER is THIS TUESDAY, Feb 13, from 6-7pm in Galloway Hall. Come enjoy a last hurrah before the spartan season of Lent. Featuring Pancakes, Sausage, Butter, Syrup, and sweet toppings of various kinds!

REMOVE LAST YEAR’S PALMS from your home during the Lenten Season. You may reverently “return them to the earth” (as is appropriate for anything blessed) or bring them into church to be burned for next year’s ashes.

SUNDAY BIBLE STUDY STARTS TODAY, February 11, at 9:05am in the Fireplace Room from 9:00-9:50am. We’ll be reading Paul’s letter to the Ephesians. This is a drop-in study. No prep needed, just come!

LENT POTLUCKS begin on Wednesday, February 21, at 6:30pm in Galloway Hall. Come early at 6:15pm if you want to join in Evening Prayer in the chapel. A program led by Fr. Phil follows the potluck dinner for those who choose to stay.

ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE is the subject of this year’s Lenten Potluck Program with Fr. Phil. He will explain what AI is, how it works, and why it’s suddenly a big deal. In these sessions you will learn how NOT to be fooled by AI. Program topics will include AI text-generators like “ChatGPT”, AI photo-generators like “MidJourney”, and AI audio and video generators that are threatening to upend news and elections. Most importantly, he will teach you how to use AI to make your life better – you can do it! Join in on Wednesday nights at 7:10pm from February 21 to March 20. Programs will be done by 8pm.

LENTEN POTLUCK HOSTS set up before the dinners (placemats, make sure the potluck tables are ready) and reset Galloway Hall afterwards (wipe tables, run dishwasher). The following groups will host this year: ECW-Feb 21, MEN’S GROUP-Feb 28, CHOIRS-Mar 6, 8 O’CLOCKERS-Mar 13, VESTRY-Mar 20.  A BIG thank you to you all!

FIRST COMMUNION CLASSES for children in Second Grade and older will be held in Lent during the first half of the church service. Kids will come in at Communion (and may leave after receiving Communion to go to regular Sunday School). Talk to Nancy Crysler or Fr. Phil for more info.

CAN YOU DELIVER FOOD to the Sacred Heart Food Pantry once a week? This is an easy ministry that means the world to hungry people on the island. Please let us know in the office.

THE ECW WILL HAVE a meeting in the fireplace room on Sunday February 18 at 11:15 a.m.  All women are invited to attend.

A HUGE “THANK YOU” for all your very generous donations we have received and distributed since the beginning of our program in October to assist several students with food on the weekend.  We continue to need the following supplies: individual serving containers of milk, juice, mac & cheese, cereal, soups, granola bars, peanut butter & jelly, and snacks.  Not sure what to get or don’t have time? Money donations are very helpful for our commitment to continue for this well needed service.  Questions? Contact Mary Ann Danville, 734-306-4438 or mdanville1@comcast.net. “You may not always see the results of your kindness. But every bit of positive energy you contribute to the world makes it a better place!” (Winnie The Pooh)

SHARE YOUR PRAYERS by writing them in the red booklet as you enter the worship space. New items each week will be read aloud in the service.

CAN YOU READ THE PRAYERS? Fr. Phil is looking for volunteers to read prayers aloud during the service.

“THE LIFE OF CHRIST” HAS STARTED – Saturdays at 9:30am in the church library across from the office we are discussing different aspects of Jesus’ life. Pat Zavadil has led this group many times to rave reviews. Come and be a part of this introduction to the life of Jesus Christ.

A SOUPER COFFEE HOUR is planned for this Super Bowl Sunday, Feb 11. Bread Bowls from Panera will be filled with soup prepared by St James women and offered at the Coffee Hour following both services. There will be different choices including Vegan! You can also order to go! Freewill donations will support the Fill-up Fridays to feed Grosse Ile children.

LENT MADNESS is a fun and spiritual take on March Madness. We all know that college basketball teams enter a bracketed tournament where the winner-takes-all. Just so, Lent Madness sets up bracketed matchups where Saints go head-to-head in a winner-takes-all tournament. Who will win the Golden Halo? Each day of Lent will feature a matchup of two historical saints. On Lentmadness.org you can read about each saint and vote on who is most saintly. Their life stories are deeply encouraging!

A RECITAL, REQUIEM MASS, AND INTERMENT for Barbara Massey will be held this February 17th. The Requiem Mass will begin at 10AM at “Our Lady of the Scapular” on 976 Pope John Paul II Ave in Wyandotte. The Interment will begin at noon in the Saint James Memorial Garden. The Organ Recital by Dr. David Saunders will begin at 12:15 in the main sanctuary of Saint James as a celebration of the lives and tribute to the faiths and music ministries of organist-choirmasters Barbara A. Gray-Massey and Lance A. Massey.

A MEN’S BREAKFAST MEETING is planned for Galloway Hall on Saturday March 9th. We guarantee good company, good coffee, good food, good fellowship, and good service in our favorite holy space!

“CHOOSE TO REUSE” AND SAVE THE PLANET by buying a floral-designed box bag for $6 or a bag made from recycled plastic bottles for $2.  A sample of each bag is hanging on the bulletin board in Galloway Hall. Proceeds help the Men’s Group. Reach out to David Hartwell.  Call or text 313 318-9009 or email dhartwell4@yahoo.com.

BOOK CLUB meets on Thursday afternoons at 1:30 p.m. in the church library. This week we’ll read chapter 4 of “What we talk about when we talk about God” by Rob Bell.
