“SAINT PAUL And The Founding of Christianity” is the title of this year’s Lenten Potluck/Program. Beginning Wednesday, February 21. Was St. Paul the real founder of Christianity as some people say? What did he know and believe about Jesus Christ? What can we learn from his letters to help us live as 21st Century Christians? Come and see. Programs begin at 7:15PM, with Evening Prayer at 6:30PM and a potluck dinner beginning at 6:45PM.

Lenten Potluck Dinners begin Wednesday, February 21. Come for the whole night, or just a part: Evening Prayer in the chapel begins at 6:30PM. The potluck dinner begins at 6:45PM. The Lent Program on Saint Paul begins at 7:15PM. The program ends by 8PM. For the potluck please bring your own table setting and a dish to share. A main course is provided by the host group:

Upcoming Music Events: (Notice a change in Date!)  Febuary 24, 7:30PM: Come and hear Piano Trio music with Yi Chieh Anita Chiu, Violin, Jon Moody, Cello, and Robert Ragoonanan, Piano in Galloway Hall! Featuring works by Ludwig van Beethoven and Cécile Chaminade.

Private Confession is always available in the Episcopal Church. Lent is an especially good time to consider making a confession. Falling under the category of “All may, some should, none must” Confession is usually undertaken by a person who is entering a new phase of life or who is having a hard time feeling forgiven or who is feeling a particular desire to clean the slate. To schedule a private confession contact Fr. Phil at rector@saintjamesgi.net or 734-775-7140.

“Great Figures of the New Testament” is the topic of the Thursday afternoon discussion group. We meet in the Library at 1:30 p.m. to watch a 30 minute presentation on a great New Testament figure and then discuss. All are welcome.

“Just Because” Envelopes   The colorful envelopes located in the church vestibule are there for that special time when you just want to give a little extra to the church. Choose an envelope by number and put that much into the envelope. Certain numbers are even associated with prizes!

Prayer at Communion is available every Sunday at the 10AM service. Prayer Team members stand at either side of the altar rail. After you receive the bread and wine, engage a prayer team member and ask for prayer of any kind, which they will offer on your behalf. Prayer requests are confidential.

A Sunday Morning Bible Study runs between services every wFebeek from 9:05 to 9:50 AM in the Fireplace Room. Led by Fr. Phil with lots of space for discussion, this open study is a great for increasing knowledge and faith.

Open Office Hours  Fr. Phil is available for appointments throughout the week for meetings of any length, but on Tuesday evenings you never need an appointment. Drop in any Tuesday between 4:30-6:30 pm and say hello!

United Thank Offering (UTO) benefits programs that address compelling human needs by supporting the alleviation of poverty, both domestically and internationally, within the Episcopal and Anglican provinces, dioceses, and companion dioceses.  47 grants were awarded in 2017 totaling $1,169,969.55. All of this is possible because of the prayerful generosity of participants in UTO.  Remember that each donation is given in gratitude for a blessing, and UTO simply passes that blessing along through its grants. St. James generously donated $730.00 to United Thank Offering last year.  In 2018 our “Ingathering” Sunday will be March 11th. Please return your  blue boxes or if you would like to participate by donating cash the loose plate offering will be given to UTO on that Sunday.  UTO envelopes are also available anytime and checks made out to St. James ECW with UTO in the memo line are happily accepted.  Questions? We received word from Grosse Ile Presbyterian Church that Betty Blazok has died. Mrs. Blazok was a school teacher and high school counselor for many years on Grosse Ile. Her obituary can be accessed at http://martenson.tributes.com/obituary/show/Betty-V-Blazok-105809488. There are no immediate plans for her funeral, but as the obituary states, there will be a memorial service at Grosse Ile Presbyterian Church sometime in June.

🎵 🎶 🎶  MUSIC NOTES  🎵🎶🎶 🎵

Choir and bell choir is up and running! Please consider joining, all are welcome and it is a fun and exciting environment to sing, ring, and explore the rich history of church music. Bell Choir rehearses Thursdays at 6:30, and Vocal Choir rehearses

at 7:30 on Thursdays.

This morning’s musical point of interest: : This morning at the 10:00 we hear the wonderful voice of soprano Jill Robinson, singing some great spiritual settings. It may be interesting, as the listener, to compare the dates of the composers of the music for prelude, communion, and postlude today. They all lived around the same time, but were composing in wildly different styles. It really exemplifies the way music in the 20th century goes in so many different directions.

Upcoming Music Events:

(Notice a change in Date!)

Febuary 24, 7:30PM: Come and hear Piano Trio music with Yi Chieh Anita Chiu, Violin, Jon Moody, Cello, and Robert Ragoonanan, Piano in Galloway Hall! Featuring works by Ludwig van Beethoven and Cécile Chaminade.
