If Feet Could Talk is extremely grateful. Because of your generosity this Saint James sock drive has already filled one and almost filled another 55 gallon collection drum with socks for the homeless in Detroit. To each and every one of you for each and every pair of socks you have donated — thank you. Each pair of socks will make a difference in the life of another. If Feet Could Talk will continue to collect socks in the future because providing socks for the homeless is a worthy ministry. The first deliveries of socks have begun and will continue in the coming weeks. If you would like to be on a delivery team contact David Hartwell, Madeleine Jones, or leave a message in the church office.
If You Give Electronically you now have the option of putting a gratitude card into the offering plate. Find them on the table across from the main office. Saintjamesgi.net/contribute
Offering Envelopes are available. You can request envelopes by filling out a form (found on the table in the hallway outside the Treasurer’s office door) or simply contact the main office. Envelopes are not dated so can be used any time. Once your request is received you will be assigned a box and number. Using numbered offering envelopes helps ensure your contributions are counted for tax deduction purposes, streamlines the process for our counters each week, and is an at-home reminder of this important aspect of worship.
Bring your Palms from last Palm Sunday and leave them in the church office any time before Ash Wednesday, February 9. Palms are burned to provide our ashes.

Rx -What Do You Prescribe? It is cough, sore throat, congestion, and nasal drip season at Saint James and that means it is time to share home remedies with your fellow church members. On a prescription pad (a blank sheet of paper!) write down your favorite home remedies. Sign your prescription pad if you like. Bring your home remedies to Saint James and post them on the bulletin board just inside the entrance to the main church. A home remedy like a hot toddy that includes alcohol (for medicinal purposes!) is perfectly acceptable. This should be fun! To your good health. – David Hartwell

Annual Meeting and All Parish Potluck: January 31st
A Significant Agenda Item for our annual meeting on Sunday, January 31, will be a diocese-required vote to resolve a property-encroachment issue with our neighbors to the north, by providing a limited and revocable license to them. This solution has been arrived at through discussions with the neighbors, the diocese, the surveyor, the vestry and parishioner Carl Colwell, who is an attorney. A full explanation, maps, and time for questions and answers will be provided at the annual meeting. Speak to a member of the vestry or Fr. Phil to learn more.
Out There With Outreach: February, March & April 2016
Sat. February 20th the Detroit Moose Hockey Team will do the entire day alone. This will give us and Sacred Heart the day off.
Sat. March 19th Sacred Heart will do the whole day alone, giving us the day off.
Sat. April 16th we will do that whole day alone: cooking and serving. This will give Sacred Heart the day off. We will need lots of help for that one!
Sign-up sheets are on our bulletin board in the hallway near the “Godly Play” East River Room. May God bless you all in this new year.
With love always, Amy & Frank Kohair 734-693-0694
MUSIC NOTES
A Weekly Series by Daniel Susan, our Minister of Music
The Psalms have been called the Church’s hymnbook and through Christian history they have served as a major source of texts for worship. Some verses have made their way into the parts of the liturgy that the Church sings at every Eucharist, as in the ever-present “Sanctus”, where we sing from Psalm 118 “Blessed is he who comes in the name of the Lord.” Many common hymns are paraphrases of Psalms, or at least inspired by them. “Praise to the Lord” is from Psalm 103 and a side-by-side comparison of the hymn to the Psalm makes this clear. Psalm 19 is another well-known Psalm that has been set to music many times. Benedetto Marcello (1686 –1739) set the words for choir, and the organ arrangement of it is likely heard more often than the original. Jesus quoted the Psalms often and they continue to be a fruitful source for our personal prayer and devotion as well as for public worship.
