Happy Feast of the Epiphany
NEW BOOK GROUP BOOK! – “WHAT WE TALK ABOUT WHEN WE TALK ABOUT GOD”On Thursday, January 11, at 10:30am we will begin our new Thursday book study. A copy of this week’s reading can be found on the resource table. We’ll read one chapter a week. The book is “What We Talk About When We Talk About God” by Rob Bell. In today’s fast-paced world of science and technology, where is God? How do we hear God? And why does God continue to matter so much? This faith-filled book is easily readable and highly rated with over 750 four-and-five star reviews on Amazon.
NEW STUDY GROUP! “THE LIFE OF CHRIST” will be the topic of a Saturday morning group that will begin on Saturday, February 3rd, meeting at 9:30am in the church library across from the office. Each week we’ll focus on a different aspect of Jesus’ life. Pat Zavadil has led this group many times to rave reviews. Come and be a part of this introduction to the life of Jesus Christ. The goal is to open doors that will help you learn who He was and is, so that you may follow Him as well as those who knew Him face to face.
NEW! ACTION BIBLE STUDY FOR ADULTS! Fr. Phil is planning an “Action Bible” study for Tuesday evenings from 6:00-6:50pm in the Church library. The Action Bible is the whole Bible in a compelling, visual, comic book style. The study will begin in February if three or more people sign up on the main bulletin board just inside the front doors of the church. Many Bible studies look at a single chapter or verse, but this study will look at the arc of the Biblical story. By using the Action Bible, you will be able to quickly and easily read the equivalent of 30 chapters in a single 20-minute sitting, complete with beautiful visuals! This study will help you hold the whole Biblical story in mind at once. Look for a handout of the first week’s reading on the Resource Table. If enough people sign up, this class will begin on Feb 6.
NEW! “SUNDAY MORNING 9AM BIBLE STUDY” During the season of Lent Fr. Phil will lead a Sunday morning Bible Study in the Fireplace Room from 9:00-9:50am. We will look at the New Testament Letter to the Ephesians. There is no preparation necessary for this study. Indeed, it is better if you do not read the chapter ahead. For this study we will read the chapter aloud as we begin, then discuss it, then hear it again at the end of our discussion. The study will always end on time, so Fr. Phil can lead the 10am service. This is a drop-in study. Commit to the whole thing or come when you can. The first study will be on Sunday, February 11.
THANK YOU SO MUCH TO EVERYONE for your help with our “Fill Up Friday” backpacks that we deliver to children in need of food over the weekend! We began with 6 children and currently we have 13. We will continue to provide for these students and could not do it without you! Contact Mary Ann Danville mdanville1@comcast.net with questions or for information. Love and prayers for all of you!
THE ANNUAL MEETING OF THE PARISH is scheduled for Sunday, January 28, at 11am in Galloway Hall. This is a celebration of our past year and a looking-forward to what God is calling us to accomplish this year. We will also elect officers and bestow the Alice Award, so don’t miss it!

PLEASE CONSIDER JOINING VESTRY! The “vestry” is the leadership body of an Episcopal Church. It is comprised of 12 members, with four people typically elected each year for a 3-year term. Please consider whether you may feel called to join the vestry this year. That group works closely with Fr. Phil to chart our church’s future!
DO YOU KNOW WHAT DARTBALL IS? Kate and David Hartwell are interested in bringing the game of dartball to Saint James and Grosse Ile. There will be refreshments served, including Susan “Susie” Siebarth’s “to die for” Turtle Cake! We plan to carpool from Saint James at 6 pm.
