VBS August 3-7 Save the date for a great week of Fun, Faith and Fellowship.

Downriver Deanery Weekly Evening Prayer with Holy Eucharist  in Bishop Park Wednesdays at 6:30pm, weather permitting, through August 26th.  Led by the Rev. Lynda Carter and assisted by the Rev. Dcn. Ken Rasnick. Folks are encouraged to bring a lightweight lawn chair; to come early and bring a light dinner with them if they would like – to enjoy in the relaxing atmosphere of God’s creation before the service; to socialize with others from our deanery and within the geographical areas we serve; and then nourish their souls with Evening Prayer and Eucharist.  Look for signs as to the exact location, as it will be dependent upon park usage.

WOW- Women on Wednesdays meets each week at 7:00pm for about two hours in member’s homes.  A book is discussed – but there’s no homework!  All the reading is done together.  A new series will be started soon on Women in the Bible.  There is also a time to share our lives with each other.  Marilou has the best stories about herself and her grandchildren!  Call Carolyn Hoey  at 558-9312 for more information.

Puttin’ on the Green You and your family are invited to “putter around” with other Saint James Church members at Puttin’ on the Green, a miniature golf party with putting, pizza, pop, and prizes on August 15.  Look for more details in the coming weeks.  (The idea for the name Puttin’ on the Green came from the song Puttin’ on the Ritz, featured in the 1946 film Blue Skies starring Fred Astaire. “Putting on the Ritz” is a slang expression inspired by the opulent Ritz Hotel in New York City meaning to dress very fashionably and was the inspiration for the song title Puttin’ on the Ritz.  Look up “Fred Astaire – Puttin’ on the Ritz” on the internet and enjoy a video of this song and dance.  Talk about smoooooooth! Perhaps we will be seeing you Puttin’ on the Ritz at Puttin’ on the Green.)

Incredible Journey to Midnight: Detroit Underground Railroad Lantern Walking Tour. Save the date for Saturday, August 29, 7:00 pm. Travel through Midnight, and retrace the steps of Freedom Seekers  at this important, final stop on the long and treacherous journey to freedom.  Detroit’s role in the Underground Railroad and the antislavery movement is one of many Detroit stories that begs to be told! Lisette will be there! Watch for details, or call Kate Hartwell (chapel historian) 313 318 3275. This event is part of the Red Doors Chapel Series.
