A HOLY MOMENT OF THE WEEK
Send yours to goodnews@saintjamesgi.net Dave Christie and his grandson, Jacob Christie, wait for the signal to present Sunday’s collection. |
Welcome Back, Fr. Phil!
You are cordially invited to Attend The Annual Diocesan Picnic, Saturday, July 27 at the Emrich Retreat Center. The picnic will begin at 11:00 a.m. and end at 4:00 p.m. They are also accepting donations of backpacks and school supplies, which will be donated to children in need. Reservations for the picnic are $5.00 per person with a maximum of $20.00 per family. Please call Jennifer, 313-833-4414, if you need further information or directions to Emrich.
WOW (Women on Wednesday) is now reading the book of Acts with the commentary of William Barclay’s. We meet @ 7:00 in member’s homes. If interested, please contact the church office
Do You Like A Night At The Ballpark? Men’s Ministry is sponsoring an evening of baseball with the Toledo Mud Hens, the Tigers minor league team, for Friday evening, August 9, 2019 at 7:05 pm at the ball park. Tickets are $14 each for a minimum group size of 15. We plan to meet earlier that Friday at the church to consolidate vehicles, coordinate parking and allow for a pre-game group meal (Spaghetti Warehouse or Tony Pacos). A sign-up sheet is on the bulletin board. More details to come.
VBS Registration is now Online. Our Vacation Bible School is the best! Sign up your children, grandchildren, and neighborhood boys and girls for this great week of activity, scheduled for August 12-16. Registration is free. Click on www.saintjamesgi.net and follow the prominent link.
Have you always wanted to volunteer? St. James will now be preparing and serving the meal at Spirit of Hope Soup Kitchen on Saturday, August 17th, 2019, because the Detroit Moose Hockey Team is unable to do it that day. Sign-up sheets are posted on the Outreach bulletin board. Please sign up soon, so we know how many folks we will have!
Help Wanted Are you a people person? Do you enjoy being organized and helping others? Are you a member of St. James? If you answered yes to the above questions, there is a position which may be of interest to you. The St. James semi-annual rummage sale is in need of two additional co-chairs (for a total of 3). If you would enjoy helping Downriver’s largest rummage sale come together from start to finish (while helping people from all walks of life, and having fun while doing it), this may be a good fit for you. This position does not require a lifetime commitment, just one week of time for a worthy cause. If you would like further information or have any questions, please contact any member of the ECW Board (Sharon Metz, Mary Jo Brough, Barb Valmassei, Jennifer Phillips Engle, Mandy Phillips, Lynda Van Englen, or Collie Hooper-Yan).
First Aid Kits have been created, stocked, and distributed around the building. Thanks to great work by Mark Ferguson, Warren Johnson, and Sue Weston we are all a lot safer. Please take a moment to identify the kits—1) on the shelf behind the main altar, 2) on the coat rack by the main office, 3) in the kitchen by the sink, and 4) in the chapel sacristy by the piscina sink.
The Yellow Envelopes in the pews are for spontaneous gifts to the Capital Campaign. Fifty households pledged to our 150th Anniversary Capital campaign, but our goal is 100% participation. If you did not make a pledge, your support is still needed! Use the yellow envelopes to join the effort that is making our church safer and more sound for the generations that will follow us. Help us get to 100% support.
Offering Envelopes Are Always Available on the table across from the office. Pick them up as you need them. Please be sure to fill out the little card found in each offering box to enable our Treasurer to associate your envelope number with your household.
“NEWS & UPDATES” is a new section of our Good News Weekly. Please send in write-ups of any parish events or meetings, so everyone can keep informed about all the great work that is accomplished here. Send your article to goodnews@saintjamesgi.net.
Share the Joy of Coffee Hour A “Coffee and Conversation” signup sheet is always on the main food table at coffee hour. Please sign up for a Sunday, to prep the coffee and provide a simple snack. This would be a great help, as coffee hour is an entirely volunteer effort.
Service Recordings Our weekly 8am worship services are available online. Find them on our website saintjamesgi.net under the “Media” tab, or at youtube.com/user/saintjamesgi.
Open Bible Study An open, drop-in Bible study is held every Sunday in the Fireplace Room from 9:05-9:50am. The study requires no prep and you can come and go. Try it out this Sunday!
Gluten-Free Wafers are always available at communion. Just ask.
Secretary Office Hours: Colleen is in the office Tue-Thur 9-2, & Fri 9-12.

Oops! The “Seasons of the Heart” program with Sr. Betty Leon was held on Tuesday, June 25th, not July 25th. We are very sorry for the misinformation in last weeks bulletin, in regards to the incorrect date. There was a great turn out despite the error. There will be another program in the Fall!
You came, you ate, you even sang! To all of you who attended the 5th Sunday Summer Funday picnic lunch after the 10 o’clock service last Sunday, June 30 — thank you. Kate and David Hartwell, and those who volunteered their time, their talent, or both, to ensure that 5th Sunday was special.
