A HOLY MOMENT OF THE WEEK Send yours to goodnews@saintjamesgi.net Joyce Turin explaining the meaning of one of the chapel’s beautiful stained glass windows on a historical tour. |
A Newcomer Brunch is scheduled for Sunday, July 24th at the rectory. All those who have newly joined Saint James’ in the past 2 years are warmly invited to attend. After the 10am service drive 1 mile down the road to 26041 Martin Lane, just off Manchester. We’ll have burgers and hotdogs for all; kids welcome!
Vacation Bible School (VBS) is Scheduled For The First Week In August! Mark your calendars: kids and team! This year’s theme will take us back to Old Testament Times, just like our first VBS 30 years ago. There will be a sign up on the Kid’s bulletin board near the restrooms for VBS jobs or contact Nancy Crysler. This is always a special week where all ages get together to make memories for our young ones. If you haven’t seen Fr. Phil in action at VBS, be prepared to be entertained! Also, we will be needing about 4 tents to place on the front lawn. If anyone would be willing to loan one, please contact Nancy Crysler.
How Are Your Sewing Skills? One of our vestments needs repair by an expert with needle and thread. The tear is small, but we hope a stitch in time will save nine. Can you help? Speak to Fr. Phil in person or at rector@saintjamesgi.net.
If You Enjoy Time To Visit With Friends Old And New At Our Coffee Hour please consider volunteering to help with this weekly, low key event that is so integral to our fellowship. Your simple act of service for a short time after the 10am service, with easy set up and clean up, helps everyone enjoy this time together. Coffee and tea are provided, and the food can be simple, purchased snacks. To host contact Joan Hemsworth (734-675-8191) or look for the sign-up in the kitchen.
A Weekly Eucharist focusing on a saint is held every Weds. at 10:15am in the chapel.
Minutes of Vestry Meetings are available on the bulletin board outside of the main office. Also, vestry meetings are open meetings that all are welcome to attend. Our next regularly scheduled meeting will be Tuesday, August 9, at 7pm in the River Rm.
We Are Pleased to Pray for the Men and Women serving in our military, but want to be sure our list is current. Please let the office know of friends and family currently serving in the military. We will refresh our list in September, and remove any names not confirmed by then (new names given to us will be added immediately!)
We Are Updating Our Records On The Youth in our congregation. If you haven’t already, please confirm your child’s name, grade (preschool- college) and birthday with the office (office@saintjamesgi.net)
Beginner’s Belly Dance Continues to run on Wednesdays at 7pm.
Join The Pastoral Care Committee to adopt a homebound parishioner, visiting them every week or two, bringing a bulletin and communion. This group is also the core of the emergency prayer chain, which is activated in times of immediate need. Contact chair Marie Johnson mariewarrenj@comcast.net or Fr. Phil.
We’re Updating Our Picture Directory Send corrections or a new/updated picture to office@saintjamesgi.net. Look for the new version in the fall.
Holy Moments Happen Around Us Every Day – a quiet moment at home between a parent and child, an evening of boisterous laughter with friends and family, or an encounter with God’s beautiful creation. We encourage you to open your hearts and minds to see the holiness in every day. And when you capture a holy moment on film (or rather, digitally!) send it to goodnews@gmail.com. We’ll share them here to inspire others to see the holy in every moment.
After a 6-Week Long Search, Mr. Robert Ragoonanan has accepted our call to serve as Minister of Music. Bobby’s first day will be Tuesday, August 9. Read more about Bobby in this morning’s Music Notes column.
We Continue to Collect Prescription Bottles for the St. Frances Cabrini Free Clinic. If you have any questions, ask Andy June or visit www.cabriniclinic.org

Robert Ragoonanan is a sought-after collaborative pianist, orchestral conductor and voice coach, with experience serving five parishes in musical capacities, including as organist and choirmaster. A recent graduate of Bowling Green State University, Bobby holds a Master of Music in Orchestral Conducting, with a Bachelor of Music from Luther College.
Bobby is a gifted conductor of orchestras, choirs, and wind ensembles. He was frequently granted the honor of conducting new music initiatives at BGSU. His recent performances include the premiere of Lydia Dempsey’s The Wishing Well ballet, Andrew Binder’s Ballyhoo, Husa’s Elegie et Rondeau for saxophone and orchestra, and Haydn’s Symphony No. 6.
Bobby’s skills in collaborative piano and vocal coaching have made him a popular choice for collaborations with solo artists and ensembles in the Twin Cities and Bowling Green. His recent performances include Bach’s Flute Sonata in B Minor BWV 1030, Poulenc’s Sextet, Brahms’ Vier ernste Gesänge, and Schubert’s Winterreise.
Robert has previously held positions as pianist, organist, and cantor at Sacred Heart Parish in New Bavaria, OH, and St. Mary’s Church in Holgate, OH, where he also served as the choirmaster. He also worked at First Lutheran Church in Decorah, IA, as the Saturday traditional and Sunday contemporary worship pianist, and as a regular support musician at First United Methodist Church, Decorah, IA. Since 2011 Robert has organized Peace Lutheran Church’s Summer Concert Series in Minneapolis, Minnesota and served as a freelance musical recruiter for Church Music and Community Theatre for the region.
Bobby will begin serving Saint James’ in August, 2016, his first day being Tuesday, August 9. He looks forward to learning what delights us, and especially to making Saint James’ a leader in the region for beautiful worship and special music. Please give him a hearty welcome!
