A BBQ COOKOUT IS PLANNED FOR TODAY! Stay after the 10am service or arrive at 11:10 to join a good old fashioned BBQ/Potluck in the shade of the front lawn. Galloway Hall is our rain backup. The Men’s Group will be cooking burgers and dogs and will provide buns, condiments, plates plastic ware cups napkins etc. It should be great! If you happen to own a red cap or hat — and some of us do — you are encouraged to wear it

THANK YOU VBS KIDS AND LEADERS! It was a wonderful week of song, stories, science, snacks, and super crafts! You all are the best!

DID SOMEONE SAY BASEBALL??? Our Men’s Group is arranging a trip to the Toledo Mudhen’s baseball game on Friday night, Aug 18. The game starts at 7pm and tickets are $20. As usual we’ll probably plan to leave the church around 5pm to eat at the Spaghetti Warehouse before the game begins. For tickets or more information, reach out to Jim Holubka, Burdette Milkins or Pete Jett.

THE THURSDAY BOOK GROUP is taking a summer hiatus. Our next meeting is scheduled for Thursday, August 24, from 10:30am to noon. For this meeting, please read pages 113-140. It’s a great book! If you haven’t been meeting with us, consider reading the book and joining up for discussion. It’s titled, “Inspired” by Rachel Held Evans.

FR. PHIL WILL BE AWAY from Aug 1-17. The Rev. Pam Gabels will be here on Sun, Aug 6 and 13. Pam has been here before and gotten rave reviews. She is a Lutheran pastor and an administrator at the University of Michigan. For pastoral care needs, reach out to Nancy Crysler at 734-673-3990, Jim Holubka at 313-389-1833, or the Rev. Lynda Carter at 734-308-1189.

THE GROSSE ILE BOAR’S HEAD FESTIVAL is a community celebration of Christmas with hundreds of parts  for individuals, kids, and families. You get to wear costumes, go to a few rehearsals, and participate in the biggest Christmas Pageant of your life. We have roles for shepherds and kings, attendants, beefeaters, choirs, angels, solos, dancers, and more! Plus, there are behind-the-scenes roles. Sign up at BoarsHeadGi.com/volunteer .

THE SIMSONIAN 5K/1MILE RUN is being held on August 19, 2023, hosted by the Grosse Ile Educational Foundation. For information and registration go to www.runsignup.com.

HANDY CRAFTERS UNITE Join us if you have any portable craft and want to share it with others: knitting, embroidery, calligraphy, etc. We’ll focus on our crafts and great fellowship. We meet monthly on the first and third Tuesdays, from 1pm-3pm at 8187 Grays Drive, #B1 in the Grays Village condos. Contact Mary Shelton at 734-215-5113 or mary@mshelton.net to reserve a seat.  Bring your own refreshments.

CAN YOU HELP WITH ICE CREAM SUNDAYS after a 10am service? It involves 3 things: 1) Either before the service or after communion (take communion first), move some ice cream treats from the standup freezer in the middle rummage room into the cooler and the cart standing next to it. 2) Fill up a clear reservoir with ice water in the kitchen and place it on the cart with some paper or plastic cups. 3) Push the cart to the front parking lot at the end of the service and put it all away after 20 minutes or so. This is a HUGE SERVICE to all our members, plus the kids especially love it! Look for the sign-up calendar near the kitchen and thank you!

SUNDAY SERVICES ARE RECORDED and posted in high quality on YouTube every Sunday afternoon. Check YouTube.com/saintjamesgi

WEEKLY “SAINT’S STORIES” SERVICES are held in the chapel on Wednesdays at 10:15am. An optional potluck lunch follows.
