Open to All
This summer we will experiment with a “pick-up” choir for the 10am Eucharist. All ages, all voices, all skills: WELCOME!
No rehearsals but there will be a quick warm-up and meeting at 9:15 am in the choir room before the liturgy. When possible we’ll try out some “instant” music and explore some “world” music. Come once, come always, but certainly feel welcome! No vestments or high pressure singing, but an opportunity to sing with the Spirit and assist the people in their joyous song.
We will sing on June 21, 28, skip ALL OF JULY, then begin again on August 2 (OUTDOORS!), ending sometime in the following weeks.
If you can chant “Let’s go Red Wings” or something along those lines, you are fit for service! Come check it out; you know you want to. We need folks to be curious and see what’s up in the sacred music world. There’s a lot more cool stuff out there than you know. As St. Augustine said “If you want to know what we believe, listen to our songs.” I would say “if you want to know what we believe, SING our songs.

Blessing Of The Bicycles+
This Saturday, June 13 at 3pm Enjoy an Island-wide blessing of cyclists and their bicycles in celebration of the peaceful sharing of roads. Unicycles, tricycles, motorcycles, skateboards and more are also welcome. A short bike ride and lots of fun will follow the Blessing Ceremony.
The Blessing of the Bikes or Bicycles, is an annual tradition in which riders of motorcycles or bicycles are blessed by a priest in the hope that it will bring safety for the coming season. The first mass blessing of bicycles, The Blessing of the Bikes , was held in 1999 at the Cathedral of Saint John the Divine in New York City. The service included prayers and readings of biblical passages, and the bicycles were sprinkled with holy water. A brief memorial service was held to acknowledge riders who had died in the previous year. In 2015 hundreds of cyclists gathered inside the Cathedral to have their bicycles blessed, the 17th year The Blessing of the Bikes has been celebrated theblessingofthebikes.com.
