TODAY! A fun night out…..The ECW will be hosting a Corned Beef and Cabbage Dinner on March 17th, 2018. Dinner will be from 5:30 – 7:30pm with a free musical program following at 7:30pm. Holy Week Services are a powerful way to prep for Easter. Maundy Thursday is the celebration of Jesus’ last supper. We gather in the chapel at 7 pm. Good Friday services begin at 1 pm in the chapel. This year we will remember Jesus’ Seven Last Words. Holy Saturday services are brief and stark. We gather in the chapel at 9 am for a simple worship service.
Palm Sunday Services are right around the corner! March 25! Wear red. Note that driving On Palm Sunday can be tricky because of the “Rock CF” run. Your drive will probably be uneventful, as the run is held early in the morning, but if you need to get through, explain that you are traveling to church.
Easter Flower and Music memorials are now being received. This is a chance to dedicate the Easter Lilies or the Easter Festival Brass to loved ones who have passed, or in thanksgiving for something or someone. Leave the gold-colored sheet in the office with an offering of any amount. Dedications will be listed in all Easter bulletins.
First Communion Classes start on Sunday, April 15, in the library after the 10AM service. Our celebration of first communion will be Sunday, May 20th (Pentecost!). Contact Nancy Crysler to have your child enrolled. ncrysler@outlook.com
Nightwatch is an all-night vigil in the chapel spanning the end of the Maundy Thursday service through to the start of the Good Friday Service. Sign up for one hour. Two spots are available every hour. The signup sheet is just outside the main office.
Holy Saturday For Kids is a special morning for children and families that includes an Easter Egg Hunt, a fun Craft, a telling of the Easter Story by Fr. Phil, and a snack. We gather in Galloway Hall at 10:30AM on March 31. Please encourage your child to invite friends!
The EASTER VIGIL Sunrise Service begins at 7:30am on Easter morning, April 1, in the chapel. We begin in the dark with the lighting of a single candle to represent Christ’s resurrection. This beautiful service gives a special start to Easter.
The EASTER FESTIVAL Eucharist begins at 10 am on Easter morning, April 1, including a Festival Brass Quintet, a full choir, an Easter sermon and Holy Communion. This service is a singularly joyful celebration of Resurrection!
Love To Read? Take Advantage Of Our Book Exchange! There’s a shelf outside the kitchen where we encourage you to bring your old books and pick up new ones.

Donations of ENFAMIL will be collected in a box in the main hallway by the resource table. Thank you for your help! Talk to Margaret Horvath to find out more.
Scrip will be available for purchase this Sunday and next Sunday. (SCRIP is what we call gift cards that are purchased through the church and thus give a percentage to the church. Between SCRIP and Kroger rewards the church receives $2,000-$4,000 a year. SCRIP order forms are on the resource table across from the office. Checks can be made out to St. James Scrip and dropped off in the office or given to Wendy Kiblawi or Lynn Blanks. If you have any questions contact Lynn at 734-347-5199.
Capital Campaign pledge cards are online at saintjamesgi.net/cc150 and on the resource table. Projects begin this Spring!
Lenten Potluck Dinners continue this week. Hosted by the vestry, we will look at the historical and faith developments that led to the writing of the Gospels.
The movie “Paul, Apostle of Christ” is opening in area theaters soon. A number of us at Saint James are talking about going to see the movie on Tuesday, March 27 at 3:45 in the afternoon at the AMC Woodhaven Village 10 (previously the Woodhaven Emagine) at 21720 Allen Road in Woodhaven, and then picking up some pizza and pop and taking it back to the church, where we will eat and talk about the film. You are welcome to join us for just the movie, or for the movie and dinner. If 25 or more of us sign up for the 3:45 showing we will get a group rate, so feel free to bring a friend! How about carpooling from Saint James at 3:00, or meeting us at the theater at 3:30? Please let me know no later than Sunday, March 25 how many tickets you want for the movie, and if you plan to have pizza and pop with us afterwards. The cost of the pizza and pop will be shared. I hope the movie link below inspires you to go see Paul, Apostle of Christ. David Hartwell 313 318-9009 Phone and text http://www.paulmovie.com/site/

Do you want to help someone in need? Hannah Thomas will be holding a clothing drive to help parents who have children in the Hematology/Oncology Clinic at Mott children’s Hospital. She will be collecting new underwear and pajamas for them. Apparently many young children have accidents and / or get sick to their stomach after surgery or Bone marrow transplants. This often happens when they come to the clinic. Many parents, especially those that have children over three don’t think to bring changes of clothing with them to the clinic. Parents have so much on their minds when this journey begins clothing is probably low on the list. The nurses collect these items and give them out as needed. They are only allowed to except new items as this is hospital policy. To assist Hannah in this wonderful project, we will have a collection box set up in the hallway for you to put your items in. This is a great project to get your own kids involved in. Let them pick out some fun undies and pajamas to donate, from one child to another!
Have you wondered about the work that has been going on across the river from Saint James at Stony Island? Well, wonder no more!
