A HOLY MOMENT OF THE WEEK

Send yours to goodnews@saintjamesgi.net

Hannah Thomas, with her crew, selling tickets for her fundraising event, Fleece and Thank You.

This Sunday  be sure to stay for the free 5th Sunday Bruncheon in Galloway Hall after the 10 o’clock service.  Great food and fellowship will be “served”.  Come celebrate with us.  We will save you a seat!

Sunday School- The Sunday School children are working on PRAYER and as a Lenten activity, want to pray for all of us individually.  You received a note paper this morning to write down one of your prayers.  Please write it down and put it in the collection plate.  The children will pray for each of you and put them in a “Prayer Cross” for safe keeping.  The children use the  guide “ASTA “ to remind them of the kinds of prayers to say.  It stands for Adore (compliments to God), Sorry prayers, Thank you prayers and Asking prayers.

Holy Week and Easter Services are right around the corner. Enter the full experience of Jesus’ Passion by participating in as many parts of the story as possible:

  • Palm Sunday: We begin in Galloway Hall at 8am and 10am to celebrate Jesus’ triumphal entry into Jerusalem. Free palms for all!
  • Holy Wednesday: Evening Prayer at 6:15pm. Pizza & a Jesus Movie at 6:40.
  • The Maundy Thursday Service celebrates Jesus’ last supper and arrest. We gather in the chapel at 7 pm.

Kept in a prominent place your UTO box is a daily reminder to say a prayer of thanks and drop in coins or bills in gratitude for God’s many blessings.  If you would prefer, checks made out to St. James ECW with UTO in the memo line are also gladly accepted.  Thank you in advance for your generosity.  Our change can change lives. A list of current grant recipients can be found at https://www.episcopalchurch.org/files/uto_2018_grants_brochure.pdf   Wendy K. 248-476-0265

The Women’s and Men’s Bathrooms have both been updated with new fixtures and sensor-flush systems thanks to your support of the Capital Campaign. The Campaign has also covered repairs to our ceilings  in various places over the winter. This Spring and Summer even more dramatic improvements will begin as the chapel exterior is scheduled to be stripped of lead paint and repainted and the front lawn is set to receive a major lighting upgrade. If you have not given to the Capital Campaign, now is a great time to get on board. Point your internet browser to saintjamesgi.net/cc150 or speak to Fr. Phil or a member of the vestry. For those who are giving, THANK YOU!

Confirmation –Confirmation by the Bishop is every three years at St. James and 2019 is the year!  On Sept. 29, Bishop Gibbs will be officiating at St. James and confirming those  willing and eligible.  Any high school student who would like to explore the possibility of Confirmation this Sept. please let Nancy Crysler know.  We are also making it available to any future 8th grader this year  as well.  St. James has a number of mature 7th graders going into 8th grade in Sept.  Confirmation is a public affirmation of your belief in Christianity.  Even if you are not certain at this point of your beliefs, you are encouraged to attend the training to explore your faith.  You can make a decision after the training.  Confirmation classes will begin on Sunday Aug. 4 and run through Sept.  They will be held after the 10:00 service for an hour with lunch served.  Aug. isn’t the most convenient time for classes but we are subject to the Bishop’s schedule and we’ll work around yours.  Please consider this opportunity prayerfully.  It is a huge step in your spiritual growth.
