HAPPY EASTER Celebrate the whole 50 days!
First Communion Today is the first Communion for three of our children. Jacob, Zoie, and Joy have been preparing for six weeks for this big step in their spiritual growth.
Classic Movie Night This Saturday, May 16th at 6:30pm We’ll be showing Breakfast at Tiffany´s (NR) and The Wizard of Oz (G). Come and see.
The ECW Annual Meeting will be held on Sunday, May 17 at 5PM at the Grosse Ile Golf and Country Club. The cost is $ 22.00 per person, payable in advance. Your dinner choices are: Chicken Piccata, Lake Perch or Pasta Primavera and will include one glass of wine or soda.
Get Tickets Now for the Detroit Riverboat Cruise Children ride free! The cruise runs on June 6th from 7 pm to 9 pm. Come early for an optional 6 pm Celebration of Holy Communion in Downtown Wyandotte’s Bishop Park. Boarding begins at the pier at 6:30pm. Tickets can be purchased after the 10am services or in the church office during regular business hours $20 adult, children under 18 free (children must be with an adult)
Tables and Chairs are available for loan from the church, but please be sure to return them when you are done. They should be checked out from the office. If you have any tables at home please return them as soon as possible.
The St. James Middle School Group meets once monthly. Anyone in 6th, 7th, or 8th grade is welcome to attend at any time. Friends are welcome, too! Our next scheduled outing will be on May 17th at Wyandotte Clayworks. For more information call Adrienne, 734-250-3594.

Fr. Phil’s Open Office Hours are every Tuesday from 4:30-6:30pm. These are open drop-in hours, so you do not need an appointment. These meetings are usually 30 minutes or less. For a longer meeting call or email ahead to schedule a time.
Join us for a Weekday Eucharist every Wednesday at 10:15am. Wednesdays at 11am join us for “Coffee and Conversation” in Galloway Hall.

Basically Bach
Recital by Daniel John Susan
Sunday, May 24 at 3 PM
St. James’ Church is blessed by a number of fine keyboard instruments and they will be featured in one program on the afternoon of the Day of Pentecost. As the title “Basically Bach” suggests, most of the music performed is composed by J. S. Bach, and will include both large Preludes and Fugues, and smaller Chorale Preludes. A few works by other composers will be included as well. Newly appointed Minister of Music Daniel Susan will first play in the chapel, moving on to the harpsichord, and ending in the main church. This will provide listeners with a rare opportunity to hear various styles of keyboard instruments in one program and a pleasant stroll will be had by all!
Mr. Susan is accepting students who wish to study piano, organ, harpsichord, or music theory.
Rummage Sale Lunches Spring 2015
A very special thank you to all who cooked and helped this week. On Monday Collie Yan, Linda Kurth and Liz Hartley made Taco Chili, Coleslaw & Bread. Tuesday, Donna & Larry Crabtree, Linda & Liz made Spaghetti, with Salad & Bread, Wednesday Pam Charney, with Toni & Linda & Liz helping made Chicken and Noodle Casserole with Green Beans. Thursday, Nancy Crysler with Linda’ s help made Fried chicken with Mac & Cheese along with Judy Christie’s Red Jello. Friday, Sue Lowrey made Pulled Pork with Linda’s potato salad and Judy’s Orange Jello with Chips. Sat, Linda & I made Hot Dogs and all kinds of leftovers. Everything was so so good! Lilian Everlove & Nancy Clark were a great help in the kitchen! All the desserts were fabulous and every one should have gained 5 lbs.

ANTECEDENTS OF ST. JAMES’ CHURCH GROSSE ILE, MICHIGAN
“Trinity”
A parish without a church. In 1856 The Rev. Richard Bury enlarged his farm home, just north of the present Gray Drive, into a large hotel. Services were held in the hotel’s parlors. Mr. Bury named the parish “Trinity,” but the parish was not registered with the Diocese until 1861… the year the hotel burned.
Services held occasionally in Mr. Hunter’s School. The Rev. Moses Hoge Hunter had erected an Episcopal School on the site of the present new St. James’ Church. Both Mr. Bury and Mr. Hunter came to Grosse Ile at about the same time. Services were occasionally held in the School until the outbreak of the Civil War when the School was closed and Mr. Hunter went to war to serve as Chaplain.
Trinity Parish recorded from 1861 to 1868.
St. James’ Chapel
1867 – The east side of the island now much more heavily populated than the west side and need for church on east side grew.
Mr. William biddle promoted the project. Funds were raised from the island residents and both Mr. William Biddle and Mr. James biddle gave generously. The legacy of Lizette Denison, a former servant of the Biddle household, was used also – for it was willed “for the building of a church.”
Mr. Gordon Lloyd, Detroit architect, was designer.
Cost of building, $6,000.
St. James’ chapel was consecrated by the Rt. Rev. Samuel A. McCoskry. The dedicatory sermon was given by The Rev. W. N. Lyster. Date: July 9, 1869.
