A HOLY MOMENT OF THE WEEK

Send yours to goodnews@saintjamesgi.net

David Hartwell and Jim Johnson sharing a beer of sorts.

Today is a Children’s Service! Please warmly welcome our youngest members. Kids, we’re glad you’re here!

Welcomed in Baptism Today we welcome Evan (parents Christina & Matt), Jeremiah (parents Natalia & Anthony), Braelyn (parents Briana & Ryan), Hudson (parents Sara & Scott), and Ava (parents Natalie & Travis) into our timeless and universal fellowship in Christ. Congratulations one and all!

A Service of Remembrance is a 10-minute service planned for today at 11:15 a.m. We gather in the memorial garden to remember and give thanks for the saints who have gone before us to God.

All Saints Candy Guessing Jars are in Galloway hall. Have some festive fun and guess how many candies or food items are in each jar. While you’re at it, you’ll learn a bit about the saints too! The closest guess without going over wins the contents of the jar.

An All-Island Thanksgiving service will be held at St. Thomas Lutheran Church this year, located on Meridian Road, at 7pm, on Wednesday November 27. Fr. Phil will be the preacher.

In the Newly Renovated Women’s Bathroom, please do not tape flyers to the mirrors, walls, or paper towel dispensers.

Red Doors – Meal and a Movie 🎥 If you are interested in seeing the movie ”HARRIET” being released this week-Text Kate at 313-318-3275. Harriet Tubman was an American abolitionist and political activist. Born into slavery, Tubman escaped and subsequently made some 13 missions to rescue approximately 70 enslaved people, including family and friends, using the network of antislavery activists and safe houses known as the Underground Railroad.

In-Gathering Sunday is November 24. Please bring your pledge card on this morning, If you have not already mailed it in, or placed it in the offering plate. On this morning we will bless our pledges of support in an act of worship and offering to God.

The Thanks+Giving Fun Run is set for Thanksgiving morning at Saint James. Join us for a 1 Mile Kid’s Dash at 8:30 a.m. and a 5K Run-Walk at 9:00 a.m. There are prizes! Register online at SaintJamesGi.net. Entry fees are free-will donations that support local families through local feeding ministries– the Sacred Heart Food Pantry, the Spirit of Hope Soup Kitchen, and Saint James ministries. All donations are tax deductible.

Gift Cards Donate Money To The Church. It is November and the Holiday Season is officially under way. That means it is time to shop for your favorite people. Avoid the stress. Order gift cards through the church and a portion of your order goes to support Saint James. All your favorite stores are offered: dining, entertainment, gas and auto, electronics and office, health and beauty, home improvement, clothing and accessories, sporting goods, etc. An information/order form can be found on the resource table outside of the main office. Complete the order form and give your check (payable to St. James Scrip) to Colleen in the office or to Lynn Blanks.  Thank you for supporting Saint James -Lynn

November’s Coffee Club Orders must be received no later than noon Monday, November 4.  Questions about the coffee club at Saint James, CoffeeAM.com, or the reduced prices that members pay can be directed to David Hartwell at dhartwell4@yahoo.com or 313 318-9009.  PS  Our church coffee is CoffeeAM coffee.  Enjoy!

🎵 🎶 🎶  MUSIC NOTES  🎵🎶🎶 🎵

About the Anthem.  This hymn was written by Robert Lowry in the summer of 1864 in Brooklyn, New York. The text came out of Lowry’s thoughts on the metaphor of the river in Christian thoughts about death. He wrote, “I began to wonder why the hymn-writers has said so much about the ‘river of death’ and so little about ‘the pure water of life, clear as crystal, proceeding out of the throne of God and of the Lamb’” (William J. Reynolds, Companion to Baptist Hymnal, p. 191). It was first published as “Mutual Recognition in the Hereafter” in Happy Voices in 1865.The first stanza asks a question about meeting the saints who have gone on before at the river of life, and the refrain is an affirmative answer. The remaining stanzas expand on the theme of Christian death and eternal life.  The tune is also by Robert Lowry and was written for the words in 1864. It was named HANSON PLACE after Hanson Place Baptist Church in Brooklyn, New York, where Lowry was serving as pastor at that time.

Special Thanks  We give thanks and praise to God for the gifts of musical talent given to Colleen Herman as she shares her skills and gifts of music  in our 10:00 A.M. worship today. Thanks, also, to Wendy Kiblawi and Collie Hooper Yan for their wonderful assistance and leadership with the reception after last night’s concert.

An Invitation for all pianists and instrumentalists…   If you would like to play one or more selections during the 10:00 A.M. worship service, please speak with our Minister of Music Jim Johnson.  As an inviting and inclusive community of worshipers, we want to give those with musical gifts the opportunity to participate in worship in such a way.

Out There With Outreach:  The Baked Potato Bar & Salad Fundraiser

Thank you all so very much for your loving generosity and for showing up to support the fundraiser for hurricane relief in the Bahamas!  $675.oo was raised through your free will donations; 100% of which went to the cause!  Monica & Dave Dowan  started a fund to give aid to those in need after disasters, beginning with the recent Hurricane Dorian in the Bahamas. This fund is by way of creating a memorial to honor Monica’s mother Marianne.  We thought that a Baked Potato & Salad Dinner would be a good way to kick-start “Marianne’s Bags of Hope” memorial. Thanks to you, it was a good idea! Thanks to those who donated desserts and helped us clean up afterward as well. What a great help!

Thanks also to Fr. Phil for providing the ECW program, for the evening, about his Sabbatical to Ireland.  He really made his trip come to life for us!  He also provided a wonderful Irish bread he made to round out the meal!  Yummy!  Love to All!!!

Spirit of Hope “Thanksgiving” Meal coming up on Sat, Nov 16, 2019

On Nov, 16th Saint James will provide and serve a “Thanksgiving” meal for our guests at Spirit of Hope Soup Kitchen.

There are three sign-up sheets on the Outreach/Soup Kitchen bulletin board in the hallway between the Sunday School room and the Choir Practice room.

The first sheet is to sign-up to prepare the meal.  We will meet in our Chapel parking lot at 8:20 a.m. to load up the supplies in the cars and to carpool.  We will arrive at Spirit of Hope at approx. 9:15.  You should be on your way home by 11:00.

The second sheet is to sign up for the Serving and clean-up. You should be at the Spirit of Hope by 11:30.

The third sheet is to volunteer to buy, roast, slice, and bag a turkey.  Please deliver the roasted, sliced, and zip-lock bagged turkey to our Soup Kitchen freezer (in the back room through Galloway Hall) before Sat. Nov. 16.  If you are also volunteering to help prep. and or serve the meal, you may bring the slice turkey with you.  It would be nice if you included the juice from the turkey in a separate bag for gravy.  No gizzards please. Patricia Saavedra & her mom Janet are making pumpkin rolls for dessert!

If you sign up but can’t come, please let us know so that we can fill your spot.

Thanks so much, we really need your help!

May God bless you All.  Any questions, please call or text: Amy Kohair 734-693-0694 or Frank Kohair 734-693-5904
