If Feet Could Talk Sock Ministry is now collecting socks. Do you still have good, usable, extra socks in your drawer at home that you forgot to bag up for rummage? Bring them to church for our St. James Sock Drive. Two barrels, one by the chapel and one by the main church entrance, are open for your donations for new and gently used socks. As winter winds approach we will also need help delivering the socks to Detroit homeless shelters and those individuals begging on corners that we frequently pass.
Our Thanks+Giving Fun Run is right around the corner. Join us for a 1 mile Kid’s Dash and/or a 5K “there-and-back” along East River. Last year was so perfect. Learn more & register: www.saintjamesgi.net Bring family, friends, & neighbors!
The so-called Gospel of Thomas is being considered at our weekly Sunday morning Bible Study held in the Fireplace Room at 9 am. The text was discovered in 1945, and supposedly contains over 100 sayings of Jesus not otherwise recorded in the New Testament. Are they genuine? Come join this drop-in Bible Study.
The Planning For the Historic Greens Market Has Begun We need all sizes and shapes of pine cones. If you have any please bring them to the church now so they can be wired. I am requesting if any of you need to trim your evergreen bushes or trees could you please wait until Thanksgiving week and then bring your branches to the church so they can be used for the Greens Market. This will give us local, fresh greens. We need branches of boxwood (this is in short supply because of last year’s very cold winter), juniper, cedar, white and red pine, balsam, Douglas fir, holly and branches of evergreens. If you have any questions please call me at 734-671-1831. Thank you in advance, Collie

THANK YOU TO PATRICIA SAAVEDRA AND TEAM for the horrifyingly wonderful Halloween party last Sunday after the 10:00 service! Galloway Hall was transformed into a goblin festival thanks to Amy Kohair, Patricia and Libby Dinwiddie. There were so many edible treats for adults and children alike.
Children were encouraged to decorate cupcakes, and make a spooky craft. The cake walk was the finale that all the kids were anticipating in hopes of winning a Halloween goodie. Many thanks to you, Patricia, who really knows how to throw a party! Thanks to your helpers as well: Amy Kohair and her fantastic decorations, Tina Hirsch, Sharon Metz, Libby Dinwiddie, Sue Johnson, Nancy Crysler, Joni Bohl, Jillian Wirtel, Bryan Mahon, and Tony Saavedra. Thank you also to all who brought goodies for the cake walk, candy and frosting. You all are making some fun memories for our St. James children.
INTERFAITH COUNCIL NEWS
Christnet
As you know the Interfaith Council volunteers to sponsor the Downriver Warming Center (Christnet) for a week each November. Each year there are around 30 guests that will be provided with breakfast, a bag lunch, dinner, shower, and a warm place to sleep. The guests stay each day (7:00 P.M.- 7:00 A.M.) at the Presbyterian Church. Each Grosse Ile Church will be responsible for a day. St. James is doing Monday, November 16th. We will need volunteers to prepare dinner and to host throughout the night. Food for breakfasts and bag lunches is purchased by Interfaith Council. As you can imagine, it is expensive. Each Church makes a donation, and we do get some money from a grant. However, donations are always welcome and needed.
Sign up sheets are in the hallway on Interfaith Board. Please, check and see where you can volunteer: cook, host, laundry, setup, breakdown or make a donation.
Thank you in advance for your help,
Jane Colwell – 734-671-9446

Thanksgiving Eve Service
Wednesday, November 25 at 7:30 is the Interfaith Thanksgiving Eve service. It is being held at St. Thomas Lutheran Church (9393 Meridian). Everyone is welcome, so bring your family and friends. It is so nice to have members from each Church gather together in prayer. Afterwards, we will meet for conversation and refreshments. This is such a beautiful service and a wonderful time to thank God for all our blessings.

MUSIC NOTES
We remember all the saints both living and dead in this ancient Christian commemoration of All Saints’ Day, so today’s music is filled with hymns fit for a funeral. This is a day also fit for baptisms since we are baptized into “the death of Christ” – a connection that our culture often seeks to avoid yet is biblical (see Romans 6:3); we often prefer to think of baptism only as a washing, not a death. Although the Gospel traditionally appointed for All Saints’ Day is the Beatitudes, today we hear of the raising of Lazarus, reflected in the ancient text traditionally sung at all funerals, “Into paradise may the angels lead you.” This text may be viewed in “The Hymnal 1982”, No. 354.
