Christnet Warming Center will be sponsored by the Interfaith Council this week, November 15-21. Each year around 30 guests are provided with breakfast, a bag lunch, dinner, shower, and a warm place to sleep.  The guests stay each day (7pm – 7am) at the Presbyterian Church. St. James is hosting Monday, November 16th. We will need volunteers to prepare dinner and to host throughout the night. Food for breakfasts and bag lunches is purchased by Interfaith Council. Sign up sheets are in the hallway on the Interfaith Board. Please check and see where you can volunteer: cook, host, laundry, setup, breakdown or make a donation.  Thank you in advance for your help, Jane Colwell (734-671-9446) and Sue Lowery (734-675-0417).

Candy Popper Supplies needed for December Soup Kitchen “Christmas Dinner”

 Hello Saint James Family!

It’s hard to believe that it’s almost time for our Spirit of Hope “Christmas Dinner” isn’t it?  Our early-prep project is to give our St. James Youth Groups what they need to make “candy poppers” as gifts for the people we serve.

What they need:

  1. Your leftover Halloween candy (check out sales at stores too!, 2. curling ribbon, 3. Tape, 4. Christmas wrapping paper, 5. AND cardboard tubes from T.P. rolls

There is a collection box for the popper supplies up by the “Big Church”

P.S. Band together!!!  BOYCOTT TUBELESS T.P.!!!!  SAVE CANDY POPPERS!!!! Only WE can avert this potential catastrophe!!!  We SHALL overcome!!!

Love & Thanks for your “collective” help, and for roasting, slicing & bagging turkeys for the upcoming “Thanksgiving” dinner at Spirit of Hope!!  Sign-ups for everything are posted on the Outreach bulletin board.  YOU are ALL the BEST!!!

Always, Amy & Frank                          Amy’s cell 734-693-0069

Heart’s Journey Through the Seasons

The next “Heart’s Journey Through The Seasons Gathering” will be held at Sacred Heart Catholic Church on Parke Lane in room B in the education wing (U-shaped drive & small north parking lot).  Sister Betty Leon will again lead us in a lovely  inter-faith contemplative program, offering two opportunities to attend: Tuesday, Nov. 17th, 9:30 – 11am, or Thursday, November 19th, 7 – 8:30 pm.  The October programs were phenomenal!  Sister Betty worked really hard to create a meaningful program and she succeeded!  We all went home with hearts full of peace and grace!  Those from Saint James who attended an October gathering were Kate Hartwell, Audrey Lydon, Wendy Kiblawi, Frank & Amy Kohair and Bonnie & Shannon Smith. Talk to any of them to learn more! There will not be gatherings in December as there is already enough on all plates with Christmas and Boar’s Head commitments!  We will resume the gatherings in January. We hope to see you there -we promise you will not regret this time well spent! For more information contact the Sacred Heart Parish Office or Sr. Betty at 676-1378  With Love, Amy K. & Kate H.

MUSIC NOTES

A Weekly Sereis by Daniel Susan, our Minister of Music

The Advent season was once 40 days long and like Lent, was a time of preparation for baptism at the upcoming Holy Day. Remnants of that penitential season remain in the readings arranged for us (for centuries), and most Christians in the world also hear these today. The discussion of the “end times” is clear in the first reading and the Gospel of the day. So we sing of our faithfulness and trust in God in the face of “wars and rumors of wars”, singing “praise to the Lord” while “thy kingdom come” is our sung prayer. “Come, bring your burdens to God.”
