SPIRIT OF HOPE SOUP KITCHEN: Dec 20
Thank you to all who helped with the soup kitchen on Nov 15th!
Our First Thought is of GREAT THANKS to all of you for your great generosity in providing beautifully roasted and sliced turkeys & volunteered help for our “Thanksgiving Meal”! Special Thanks also to Patricia Saavedra and her mom, Janet, for creating enough delicious, fresh, pumpkin rolls to fill 240 dessert plates!! We had an Astounding Crew of Joyful Helpers (adults, teens, & children!) who were all needed to prep the side dishes. We had Baked Beans donated by the Grosse Ile VFW, which were dressed up with sauteed onions, brown sugar and ketchup. Fresh stuffing with diced onions, celery, herbs, butter and chicken broth was made. A ton of mashed potatoes with more butter were made with an electric drill and it’s “fancy” attachment. Your drippings were added to a nice brown gravy to top off the turkey, stuffing and potatoes. Beautiful sweet red cranberries and dinner rolls rounded out the meal which was finished with Patricia’s thick slices of pumpkin rolls and some Greek pastries brought by Mandy Phillips. As always, peanut butter and jelly sandwiches were made as a “to go” munch for each person. This was honestly an all-you-can-eat meal, just like the one you will serve on Thanksgiving! What a HUGE TREAT for ALL! Our Dear Partners from Sacred Heart served the meal and will share the cost. Great day!
Our next turn will be Sat. Dec. 20, 2014. St. James will do this “Christmas Meal”-whole-day alone. We will need Christmas cookies which would be a big treat for the people! Please drop them off to our kitchen or the “magic freezer” before the 20th or bring them with you if you will be coming to help. Disposable, LABELED containers are best. Our Awesome Youth Group will be making Christmas Poppers as their gift to the people! There is a big box in the hall by the Big Church for their supplies. They need small wrapped candies, Christmas paper, tape, ribbon, and T.P inner cardboard rolls. Sign-up sheets are posted on the Outreach bulletin board for 1st crew: cooking, 2nd crew: serving, and Cookie Volunteers. Any questions? Please call Amy 734-693-0694 Thank You ALL from the bottom of our hearts. YOU and GOD make it all possible. You are loved always, Amy & Frank
