ALL HANDS ON DECK! Putting the church back together after the Rummage Sale takes 50 people a good hour of time. Please come to church on Saturday October 7 at 11:30am for a free lunch followed by a thrilling Rummage Sale cleanup. It’s a situation where you see something that needs to be done and then do it! We especially need younger helpers (kids through 50 year olds). It makes a huge difference having your help! Drop in and help move a table, push a cart, take down a tent, or push a broom. Thank you in advance 👍 👍 👍

DROP-IN INQUIRER’S CLASSES will be held on Weds, Oct 11, 18, and 25, in the library across from the office, from 7-8pm, led by Fr. Phil. Come learn about the Episcopal Church and ask the questions on your mind!

THE SAINT JAMES COFFEE CLUB is your source for 1/2- and 1-pound bags of freshly roasted coffee once a month.  This Monday, October 2, is the day the Club’s monthly order will be called in. By the end of the week your order will have been roasted, ground to your liking (or whole bean), bagged, shipped, and received. Take a look around the CoffeeAM website, choose a coffee that speaks to you, and let David Hartwell know by noon on Monday what it is. You pay David the discount price (cheaper than the website) when he delivers you your coffee.  313 318-9009 cell / text

THE ROARING 20’s BOOTLEGGERS’ BASH is being held at the Grosse Ile Golf and Country Club on Saturday, October 7. For tickets or sponsorship go to gieducationalfoundation.org. For further info contact Andrea at andreastevenson715@gmail.com. This event supports grants for our schools and community through the Grosse Ile Educational Foundation. This year we are proud to partner with the Grosse Ile Historical Society in revamping their vision for the future.

4 FREE COVID TESTS are now available at COVIDtests.gov. (Some people are ordering for other households too – for example you could sign up yourself, your children, and your parents, if you want.)

“HOW THE IRISH SAVED CIVILIZATION” by Thomas Cahill is the next book we’ll be discussing one chapter at a time in our drop-in Thursday book group. In an easy-reading style this book charts 600 years of history, beginning with the fall of the Roman Empire and including the evangelism of Ireland under Patrick, the extraordinary lifestyle of Celtic monastic communities (which included many non-monks, schools, hospitals, and homes), and the reintroduction of ancient learning to Western Europe after the “dark ages”. See the next announcement for book group info.

OUR FIRST BOOK GROUP MEETING, on the book, “How the Irish Saved Civilization”, will be held on Thursday, October 12, beginning at 10:30am in the library across from the office. For this meeting, please take and read the handout in the office, as it includes supplemental material not in the main book, including a few interesting pages on early Christianity.
