PET BLESSINGS ON OCT 27

PET BLESSINGS are coming on October 27! Bring your pets to the front lawn at 11:15am and Fr. Phil will come to you and have a special prayer with your household. Please be sure to have your animal friends on leashes. No petting zoo this year, as we can’t find a Petting Zoos that will come this year.
FOOD DONATIONS put into the hallway food baskets go directly to kids at schools and hungry people through our Blessing Box. Thank you for donating food regularly!

BELL CHOIR AND VOCAL CHOIR are welcoming newcomers. Do you like to sing? Do you enjoy making music? Show up on Tuesdays at 6:30pm for handbells or 7:30pm for singers. Reach out to Kevin Cishke on Sunday morning to find out more.

BAPTISMS ARE PERFECT on All Saints Sunday, which is November 3 this year. If you or friends and family need Baptism reach out to Fr. Phil.

NOW TAKING “KRINGLE” ORDERS The Saint James Men’s Group Kringle fundraiser is taking place through the end of October, when the Group’s order to Racine Danish Kringles will be called in.  By mid-November the freshly baked pastries will arrive on Saint James’ doorstep, just in time for Thanksgiving, Christmas, and Hanukkah celebrations, or for any occasion.  This year 6 flavor choices are being offered, which include almond, raspberry cheesecake, pecan, apple cinnamon, cherry, and raspberry, and the price is $12 each, the same as last year.  Reach out to any one of the following Men’s Group members — David Hartwell, Henry Fisher, Pete Jett, Burdett Milkins, and Joe Engle.  Their contact information can be found in the new church directory.  What are your favorite Kringle  flavors?!

BOTTOMS UP DIAPER DRIVE –Hello, We would like to take this opportunity to enlighten you about the need for diapers for young struggling parents that are low income. When it comes time for these individuals to go to work, they need to be able to put their children in daycare. In order to attend a daycare, they have to purchase and provide 60 diapers to take to the daycare in order for their children to attend. As you know, diapers are not covered by government assistance, and they are expensive. So, no diapers, no daycare, no work- and that is what we want to help prevent. It is a trickle-down effect that can be prevented if the parent can receive free diapers that the Bottoms Up diaper drive at the Grosse Ile Presbyterian Church provides and sends to the Fish and Loaves pantry in Taylor. There will be a container in the hall by the office marked Bottoms Up diaper donations. Please consider purchasing a pack of diapers when you are shopping to donate to this worthy cause. Meanwhile, there will be a diaper drive put on by the Grosse Ile Kiwanis on Saturday, November 2nd at Grosse Ile Kroger. All donations: diapers, or checks, go to Bottoms Up. Thank you for considering donating. Your St.James representatives: Sue Lowrey, Jennifer Engle, and Karen Overesch

THE MEN’S GROUP NEEDS HELP selling Kringles at Kroger. They are looking for “a few good men“ to join David Hartwell and Henry Fisher at Grosse Ile Kroger in the coming weeks to take orders for the Group’s Kringle Fundraiser.  If you have any spare time during weekdays to share the “Give the Gift of Kringle” message with Kroger shoppers, please reach out to Henry Fisher at 313 424-5785 cell / text, or to David Hartwell at 313 318-9009 cell / text.  Thank you.

THE HILARIOUS CLASSIC PLAY, “The Man Who Came to Dinner,” featuring our own Paul Primeau, is currently playing at 12671 Dix Toledo Rd in Southgate. When a dinner guest overstays his welcome, chaos and laughter ensue in this timeless production. Showtimes are October 12, 18, & 19 @ 7:30 PM, and October 13 @ 2:30 PM. Grab your tickets before they’re gone—this is one dinner you won’t want to miss! www.scponstage.com

FREE COVID TESTS are available from the government once again. Every household can receive a free kit with 4 tests. Go do COVID.gov/tests

OUR BLESSING BOX self-service food pantry is used most days. Please bring food items to church or whenever you can. All food donations go directly to people in need. Thank you to all of our Blessing Box Caregivers—your work is working!

HAVE YOU HEARD OF VELCRO DARTS?  The Saint James Men’s Group is bringing a kinder, gentler version of “dartball” to Saint James this fall called “velcro dartball”. Go to the internet and take a look at “velcro dartball”, and then, if you want to RSVP yes to the Men’s Group invitation and sign up for Team Saint James, have “your people” let “our people” know! David Hartwell 313-318-9009 cell / text

FOOD DONATIONS FOR OUR BACKPACK PROGRAM are appreciated! Individual serving sizes are best (e.g. juice boxes, milk boxes, Mac & cheese, cereals, Chef Boyardee spaghetti, cheese and crackers, peanut butter and jelly, etc). Please contact Mary Ann Danville if you have any questions. There is a drop-off box in the hallway by the office!

IF POLITICAL TEXTS are flooding your phone, a recent article I read says to reply STOP to the text, exactly that way: all caps and only the word STOP. I have tried it and it works! -Fr Phil
