Special Thanks We give thanks and praise to God for the gifts of musical talent given to Colleen Herman as she shares her skills in our 10:00 A.M. worship today.
About the Anthem. The text for the anthem today falls into the category of “Anglican Hymns and Music” since the author of the text was an Anglican priest Henry Alford. Alford, Henry, D.D., son of the Rev. Henry Alford, Rector of Aston Sandford, b. at 25 Alfred Place, Bedford Row, London, Oct. 7, 1810, and educated at Trinity College, Cambridge, graduating in honours, in 1832. In 1833 he was ordained to the Curacy of Ampton. Subsequently he held the Vicarage of Wymeswold, 1835-1853,–the Incumbency of Quebec Chapel, London, 1853-1857; and the Deanery of Canterbury, 1857 to his death, which took. place at Canterbury, Jan. 12, 1871. In addition he held several important appointments, including that of a Fellow of Trinity, and the Hulsean Lectureship, 1841-2. His literary labours extended to every department of literature, but his noblest undertaking was his edition of the Greek Testament, the result of 20 years’ labour. His hymnological and poetical works were numerous, and included the compiling of collections, the composition of original hymns, and translations from other languages.

Bell Tower Leg Replaced
In the process of painting the chapel we discovered that one of the legs of the bell tower had almost completely failed. This bell tower was installed brand new in 2007. Apparently some of the caulk failed, allowing water to seep between boards where it did not evaporate. If you look at the bell tower today you will see that this leg has been completely replaced. Because it is treated wood it cannot be painted for four months. This work will happen in 2020, when we plan to bring in an expert to evaluate the entire structure and make recommendations. Thanks to Jeff Faistenhammer for coordinating all the repair work this past Wednesday!
Ninety-Seven Bushes Planted
A team of 12 spent five hours on Tuesday planting 97 grasses, bushes, and flowering plants on all sides of our historic chapel. That’s 97 holes, 97 times getting down on their knees, 97 lovingly finished plantings. Then the group spread 5 yards of mulch through all the chapel beds. Thank you Tom, Libby, Lois, Fr. Phil, Sue, Lynda, Stuart, Cindi, Burdette, Pete, Jeff, and (not pictured) Joan Hemsworth who made a fantastic lunch, and Sue Lowery who did plantings and also took the grandkids to the orthodontist. Come take a loook!
