The Blessing of the Animals will be held on the front lawn THIS SUNDAY, October 23, at 11:30am. Fr. Phil will gather with each family to lay hands on your pet and bless them. The ceremony will last as long as pets are present. Please keep animals on leashes for safety.
Sunday, October 30, is Youth Sunday. All children and youth are welcome to participate in the service in some way. There will be no Sunday School. Also, all children and youth are welcome to dress up in their favorite Halloween costume that day. After the service, there will be a party in Galloway Hall with goodies and games. If anybody is interested in bringing Halloween candy to pass out to the kids, that would be very welcome.
Lisette, our Church’s Founder, had an extraordinary life and vision. Her bequest founded this church in 1868. Yet for nearly 150 years she was buried in nearly anonymous circumstances at Elmwood Cemetery in Detroit. On Saturday afternoon, November 5th, please join fellow Saint James members and friends as we gather in Detroit’s Historic Elmwood Cemetery for a dedication service and hymns at the gravesite of our chapel’s benefactress, Elizabeth Denison Forth. Don’t miss the chance to see the new grave marker and tricolor beech that will be dedicated. We are working on plans for bus transportation and dinner at an amazing venue. Details will follow. Can you join us for all or part of the day? Please RSVP Kate Hartwell 313 318-3275 or sign up at St. James to be included.
A NEW Children’s Choir meets each Sunday directly following the 10am service for appx. 30 minutes. Students in Kindergarten through 5th grade are welcome. Talk to Jill Robinson (robinsonjill25@yahoo.com) or Bobby for more information.
Giving between 3% and 10% of household income fuels the ministries of Saint James’ by providing for the cost of our building and grounds, staff, services and materials. The Biblical gold standard is 10% given to God’s work (some do give that much). Everyone’s circumstances are different – giving as little as 3% is the most some can afford. Whatever your situation, every gift given in love is acceptable to God. Thank you for doing your part!
An Online Pledge Card can be found at saintjamesgi.net/pledge with FAQ’s.
Healing After Heartbreak is a workshop series that will give you tools to process grief. The introductory session (open to all!) begins at 7pm on Tuesday, October 25. It will include an educational component and discussion. Questions? Please contact Gwyn Dugliss at griefhealing@saintjamesgi.net or 734-379-0907. This free program is open to the entire community. Spread the word.
New Mugs have been delivered to Saint James’ as a gift from CMAC Transportation and the extended Christie Family, who noticed our beige mugs were getting coffee stained and wanted to make a difference. Approved by vestry and the ECW, we love these new mugs! If you’d like one of your own ECW is selling them as a fundraiser for $5 each. Look for a sign-up sheet in Galloway Hall or across from the main office.
Can You Hear well in the 10am service? Is our sound system performing adequately? We’re conducting an informal poll. Please let us know yes or no.

The United Thank Offering (UTO) has been an important ministry of the Episcopal Church since 1889, providing a way for men, women and children to give daily thanks to God. The mission of the UTO is to distribute funds (through grants) to people and communities in need of financial support here in our diocese, in our nation, and around the world. Everyone is encouraged to take home a UTO “blue box”. Kept in a prominent place, it is a daily reminder to say a prayer of thanks and drop in coins in gratitude for God’s blessings. Please take note that due to a variety of circumstances the “ingathering” or collection of boxes will take place in January, not November as previously indicated. UTO blue boxes are available both in the narthex and Galloway Hall. Thank you, Wendy Kiblawi 248-476-0265

🎵 🎶 🎶🎵 MUSIC NOTES 🎵🎶🎶 🎵
Choir season is up and running, and it’s never too late to join! We are doing some very exciting music this year, including some great standards by composers Ralph Vaughan Williams and John Rutter, exciting new pieces by composers Libby Larsen and Benjamin Wegner, and even a Bach Cantata in December, “Nun komm, der Heiden Heiland” BWV 61, complete with soloists and orchestra! This is not a year you want to miss! Bell choir will also be doing some exciting work this year as well! Please let me know if you plan to attend! The St. James Bell Choir rehearses Thursdays at 6:30PM, and the St. James Adult Choir rehearses Thursdays at 7:30PM. All are welcome!
Please consider joining in the music at St. James, we have lots of excellent programming this year. If you have reservations about joining that I can smooth over, or even just want to chat and learn some more about music, I’m always happy to talk! I’m easily reached at music@saintjamesgi.net.
This morning’s musical point of interest: The choir is singing two beloved Bach Chorales. The text in English is below.
Ach was soll ich Sünder Machen:
Oh what should I, a sinner, do?
Oh, where should I begin?
My conscience accuses me,
it begins to awake.
This is my confidence:
I do not forsake my Jesus.
Allein Gott in der Höh’ sei Ehr’
To God alone on high be glory, and thanks for his mercy.
Since now and forevermore no harm can touch us.
God is pleased with us, now there is great peace without cease,
All feuds have now an end.
Stay tuned for upcoming music events in the area:
