10AM SERVICES RETURN to the main church on September 15th .

JOIN THE BLESSING BOX TEAM Thank you to everyone who has  volunteered to be on the Blessing Box Caregiver Team. You can still join by reaching out to Andrea Stevenson at 734-775-3892. We are grateful for your willingness to give your time, energy and talents to this ministry! Your support of the Blessing Box initiative allows us to continue the St. James long-standing mission of serving and feeding those in need.

THE BLESSING BOX WILL BE FULLY OPERATIONAL on September 1st. This gives us time to: A) Have everyone sign the box; B) Collect enough food and hygiene items to be ready to start; C) Spread the word so absolutely everyone on the island knows about this box; D) Attach the box to north side of the building in the first parking space; and E) Coordinate our volunteer team so all is set to go. YOU CAN HELP by signing the back of the box (or writing a prayer or whatever you like), placing food and hygiene items in the hallway baskets, telling everyone you know about the box, and volunteering to join the team that stocks the box. Reach out to Andrea Stevenson by voice or text at 734-775-3892 for more information.

THE FIRST BLESSING BOX TEAM MEETING will be held on Sunday, September 8. We’ll meet in the Fireplace Room at 9am. Please mark your calendars for this exciting new ministry. All are welcome to attend, so feel free to come even to just learn more.  By love, we serve one another.

THE MENS GROUP WILL BE SELLING Spring Flowers” box bags for only $6, or a bag made from recycled plastic bottles for only $2.  Proceeds from bag sales help the Men’s Group with the benevolences they support.  Look for a sample of each bag on the bulletin board easel in Galloway Hall.  Free delivery at church this Sunday.  See David Hartwell before the 10 o’clock service (I’m an 8 o’clocker), or write down your wish(es) on the order sheet on the bulletin board.  Supplies may be limited so, first come, first served.  Reach out to David at dhartwell4@yahoo.com or 313 318-9009 cell / text.

BYE BYE BIRDIE is the next stage show that our own Evelyn Howes will be in. The Musical is showing on August 9, 10, 11, and 16, 17, 18; Fri+Sat 7:30pm, Sun 3pm. Tickets are $22 or $20 for seniors and students. Get tickets at https://www.2ndstpac.com/tickets. Shows are held in Wyandotte on 2nd Street. See Lynda Van Engelen if you have questions.

“THE BIBLE JESUS READ” by Philip Yancy, is our next book group book. With five stars on Amazon and over 600 reviews, this easy-reading book explores the challenges and wonders of Jesus’ Bible. which we call the Old Testament. In seven chapters (we’ll read one a week) Yancy entertainingly helps us see the challenges and graces in the Hebrew Bible, while drawing lines between that ancient text and Jesus’ teachings. Book Group meetings start up on Thursday, September 5. We’ll meet in the library from 10:30am to noon.

BOOK GROUP IS STARTING UP AGAIN on Thursday, September 5. Meetings will be held in the library across from the office from 10:30am to noon. The book is “The Bible Jesus Read” by Philip Yancy, which currently sells for $6.99 on Amazon in paperback. Read the Preface and Chapter 1 for our first meeting.

“LISETTE” BOOKS all about the life of our founder, Elizabeth Denison Forth, are available in the office for a donation of $15. These have not been available for decades, so don’t miss this chance to get a copy!

FREE CHRISTIAN BOOKS are available on the two white tables in the main hallway by the office. Take as many books as you want.

A PURSE FOR JIM JOHNSON is being collected as a thank you for his 6 years of ministry at Saint James. You can write a check to “Saint James” and mark on a sticky note, the check, and/or the envelope that it is for “JIM’S PURSE.” We’ll pool the money and give him a single gift at a celebration later this summer.

COVID IS BACK ON THE RISE, so monitor your health and stay home if you feel ill. This variant is supposedly super-catchy and very unpleasant. If you get COVID we strongly recommend that you visit the doctor asap, as there are medications that may shorten the illness if taken early enough.

ICE CREAM SUNDAYS continue this morning after the 10am service! To help fill the cooler with ice cream, sign up on the signup sheet located just inside the main entryway.

WOW (WOMEN ON WEDS) IS BEGINNING “The Gospel of John” with William Barkley, commentator. WOW is a self-study group who takes turns meeting in members’ homes. All are welcome!  Please contact the Sue Hartley if you are interested. a

LOOKING FOR SOMETHING FUN TO DO? Every Sunday night at 7pm there is a free concert on the commons until the end of August. End your weekend with wonderful music!

HELP WITH BRASS A group of people come to church on Thursday mornings to polish the church brass together. There is a rotation, so that a few things are done each week and everything is done once a month. It’s fun, helpful, and social. Could you help? Reach out to Diane Mammo or Gwyn Duglass. Thank you!
