It’s ChurchFEST Sunday!
WELCOME, KEVIN!!

SUNDAY SCHOOL starts next Sunday, Sept. 15. Kids will come to church and leave as soon as they get communion. Classes end at 11:35. PARENTS, thank you for bringing your children to learn about Christian truth.  As a parent and grandparent, I promise you it is a critical part of their education which will count for all eternity.  It is difficult rounding up the troops on Sunday mornings. But it’s a family tradition that may impact generations to come.  Let this tradition be a part of your legacy. We love your children and want them to have a foundation of God knowledge but more importantly a relationship with Him for which to build their lives.   -Nancy Crysler

CONFIRMATION CLASSES for high school students begin next Sunday morning, Sept 15. Between now and then we’ll learn and discuss what Christianity means, how it works, why to believe, and we’ll do Bible Study and ask and answer hard questions. Please don’t let your teens miss this important program!

THE FREE ECW “WELCOME BACK LUNCHEON” will be held next Sunday, Sept 15, from Noon- 4:00PM at Westshore Country Club on Grosse Ile. The lunch is free to all St. James women. See Judy Christie, Blanche Hutchinson or Chris Robertson to sign up.

GI PAY BRIDGE BOND PROPOSAL informational meetings will be held on the following dates: Wednesday, September 18, 2024 @ 6 PM Wednesday, October 9, 2024 @ 6 PM. Meetings are held in the Township Hall on Groh Road. Information can also be found on the GI Township website.

10AM SERVICES RETURN to the main church next Sunday, Sept 15.

BELL CHOIR AND VOCAL CHOIR are welcoming newcomers. Do you like to sing? Do you enjoy making music? Show up on Thursday at 6:30 for handbells or 7:30 for singers. Reach out to Kevin Cishke on Sunday morning to find out more.

BOOK GROUP HAS MOVED TO 1:30PM – We’ll meet this Thursday, Sept. 12, to discuss the Preface and Chapter 1 (we didn’t discuss this last week). The book is, “The Bible Jesus Read” by Philip Yancy.

OUR BACKPACK PROGRAM IS BACK!  We are so excited to announce that our backpack program with GI Public Schools has been approved for the 2024/2025 school year! Thank you for making this program so successful our first year. We will tentatively begin the program the week of September 16.  We again will provide a backpack filled with 2 breakfasts, 2 lunches, and 2 dinners plus snacks to students in need, identified by the schools, every Friday.  We would love contributions that are individual serving sizes. Examples: juice boxes, milk boxes, Mac & cheese, cereals, Chef Boyardee spaghetti, cheese and crackers, peanut butter and jelly, etc.  Please contact Mary Ann Danville if you have any questions. There is a drop-off box in the hallway by the office!

PLEASE HELP US LIVESTREAM SERVICES to our infirm and homebound parishioners. Some people even watch when they’re on vacation, and prospective members also tune in. We desperately need several people to step forward to push RECORD on the Facebook app and occasionally adjust the camera if Fr. Phil starts to roam. It’s not hard and we’ll show you all that’s needed. We’ll create a schedule, so you won’t do it every week. Reach out to Jennifer Johnson, Fr. Phil, or the office. Thank you!

“LISETTE” BOOKS all about the life of our founder, Elizabeth Denison Forth, are available in the office for a donation of $15. These have not been available for decades, so don’t miss this chance to get a copy!

FREE CHRISTIAN BOOKS are available on the two white tables in the main hallway by the office. Take as many books as you want.

THE FALL RUMMAGE SALE is right around the corner! We are acceptintg rummage from Weds, Sept 18, to Sat, Sept 28. It’s time to start cleaning out closets and getting all items together. Kindly spread the word. The Pre-sort week starts Monday, the 23rd of September as a “Brown Bag Lunches” week. We provide lunch during the main Work Week which starts Monday, September 30. If you have any questions, please contact Blanche Hutchison 313-657-1726

COVID IS BACK ON THE RISE, so monitor your health and stay home if you feel ill. This variant is supposedly super-catchy and very unpleasant. If you get COVID we strongly recommend that you visit the doctor asap, as there are medications that may shorten the illness if taken early enough.

WOW (WOMEN ON WEDS) IS BEGINNING “The Gospel of John” with William Barkley, commentator. WOW is a self-study group who takes turns meeting in members’ homes. All are welcome!  Please contact the Sue Hartley if you are interested. a

HELP WITH BRASS A group of people come to church on Thursday mornings to polish the church brass together. There is a rotation, so that a few things are done each week and everything is done once a month. It’s fun, helpful, and social. Could you help? Reach out to Diane Mammo or Gwyn Duglass. Thank
you!
