A HOLY MOMENT OF THE WEEK

Send yours to goodnews@saintjamesgi.net

Some of the amazing women helping out with Vacation Bible School!

Voice Choir and Bell Choir start up this week! Please consider joining. All are invited to this fun and exciting environment where we sing, ring, and explore the rich history of church music. Bell Choir rehearses Thursdays at 6:30pm, and Vocal Choir rehearses at 7:30pm on Thursdays. Drop in to get a feel for it. Our first rehearsal is Thursday, September 6th.

Churchfest Sunday Is Next Week!  A church picnic is planned following the 10 am service on Sept. 9, 2018.  Bring a side dish to share and maybe a friend. We’ll also have a bouncy house for the kids.  It will be wonderful day of celebration.  Mark your calendars!!

10am Services move to the Main Sanctuary next Sunday, September 9.

Sunday School Registration  is now open. Help us plan our children’s ministries by letting us know that you child/children will be involved. The Registration link can be found on our church website at www.saintjamegi.net

Women’s Group’s Annual “Welcome back Luncheon” Once again all the ladies of St. James are invited to a luncheon at the Grosse Ile Golf and Country Club. The luncheon will begin at 12 noon on Sunday, September 16th. We will have a short meeting and then enjoy soup, salad, rolls, beverages and dessert. There will be plenty of time to socialize and discuss what fun things everyone did over the summer. There is no charge for the lunch, but we do need to have a count within the next couple of weeks. There will be a sign-up sheet outside the Chapel and main church, so please join us for a pleasant, stress free lunch together. Once again, you don’t have to “join” the ECW. If you attend St. James you are automatically an ECW member.

Holiday Nights at Greenfield Village! Last year, a group of us enjoyed an evening of fun at Greenfield Village and we are planning to once again enjoy all the festivities of this fun event. The tickets went on sale August 29th and go very quickly. We are looking at Friday, December 14th (with the alternate date of December 13th, if we can’t get tickets for the 14th). We will try to get tickets for the 5:00pm dinner, which gives us more time to enjoy the village. The tickets are $78.75, plus an additional $2 for the 5:00pm dinner, for a total price of $80.75. This is the member price, so I will purchase all of the tickets. If you would like to just visit the village that night without dinner, the cost is $23.75 for adults, $21.50 for seniors. Please let Lynda VanEngelen (734-671-5735) know as soon as possible if you would like to attend.

The Grosse Ile BOAR’S HEAD FESTIVAL sign-ups are scheduled for Tuesday, September 11th, from 5pm-8pm, and Sunday, September 16, from 5pm-8pm at the Grosse Ile Presbyterian Church on Horsemill & Parke Lane. Let us know your household wants to help with the amazing Christmas Pageant or to work on the production team. Big roles, small roles, speaking roles, singing roles, choir, handbells, tech team, dress up parts, juggling, non-speaking parts, kids parts, makeup, costumes, support staff—all are needed and available for this early December, super-fun community production!

Rummage Sale Set Up  Help with setup is always needed and appreciated.  If you can spare some time, please consider coming to help.  Setup will take place on Saturday September 29th from around 8:00am to Noon (coffee & donuts will be provided).  Setup will continue on Sunday September 30th after the 10 am service.

Try ALPHA this fall! The ALPHA program (looking at the basics (and basic questions!) of Christianity) will be running at Saint James this fall in conjunction with Sacred Heart. One group will meet weekly on Wednesday evenings and another on Saturday mornings. This free program includes food, an engaging video, and the opportunity for discussion in every session. Check out www.grosseilealpha.com to find out more and register.

An Altar Guild Luncheon   will be on September 23, at Noon.  It will be held at the Colony Clubhouse on Macomb Street.  Have you been looking for a way to serve at St. James? Members setup and cleanup for each service. Once every 2-3 months Teams of two clean brass & silver, etc..  A committee alternates months caring for linens. A three month schedule is made out, but you are always free to switch your assigned date with another member.  RSVP to Linda Kurth (675-1506) by September 17.  This invitation is for all current members and especially anyone who would like to join Altar Guild!

Coffee is 98% water but there is more to great tasting coffee than just the quality of the water used.  The quality of the coffee used can make a difference as well.  Don’t miss the Saint James coffee club deadline of noon on Tuesday, September 4, the day after Labor Day, when orders will be called in to our coffee roaster, CoffeeAM.  Be sure to visit them at http://www.coffeeam.com to make your selection(s) and then contact David Hartwell by phone or text at 313 318-9009, or by email at dhartwell4@yahoo.com.  As a club member you will pay 20-30+% less than the prices on the website.  There is no initiation fee to join the coffee club, there are no monthly dues, there is no obligation to order coffee, and if you do order coffee there is no need to pay for your order until you receive your coffee.  Welcome to coffee heaven!

Kroger Community Rewards has assigned Saint James a new account number. (RU510)  If you are currently enrolled in the Rewards program, this does NOT affect you.  However, if you are not part of Community Rewards and wish to join, (all it takes is your Kroger’s Plus card), you can enroll by going to www. kroger.com. Click on Savings and Rewards, next click on Community Rewards from the list, then follow the instructions on how to enroll. Search for either this new organization number or Saint James Episcopal Church, Grosse Ile when prompted.  If you have questions, contact Lynn Blanks, 676-3967.

Tigers Game  Men’s Ministries is having a night under the lights!  Friday, September 21, 2018 the Tigers play Kansas City, and you could be there to see it happen!  Cost is $40 and a hard count will be taken by Sept. 9, 2018.  Please talk to  Jim Holubka at jholubka@sbcglobal.net , Curt Crysler at ccrysler@solowp.com or Barry VanEngelen at barrylyndahtg@wowway.com for more details.

Prayer Ministry This Summer  continues in the chapel. If you would like prayers during communion, come to the back of the church by the red doors that lead to the front parking lot. In that small narthex the prayer minister will be glad to hear your needs and pray with you.

Gluten-Free Wafers are always available at communion. Just ask.

Secretary Office Hours:  Colleen is in the office Tues-Thurs 9-2, &  Fri 9-noon.
