Welcomed In Holy Baptism Today we welcome Anya Victoria Crysler! Congratulations!
Today is ChurchFEST Sunday! After the 10AM service we will share in a potluck lunch on the front lawn (or in Galloway Hall, if inclement weather). We also have a Bouncy House with Slide. Today we celebrate the start of our 151st program year.
Our Music Minister, Bobby, is leaving at the end of September for a church of 800 in his home town. Please take the opportunity to thank Bobby for his great ministry among us. A letter from Fr. Phil and Bobby can be found on the resource table across from the office.
A Purse Is Being Collected for Bobby—a money gift to help him on his way. All gifts should be clearly marked, not only on the check but also on the envelope. Gifts can be made out to Saint James. They will be collected and given as a single gift of thanks from us all. The deadline to contribute is September 25.

Any adult interested in teaching or assisting please contact Nancy Crysler. The Registration link can be found on our website at saintjamegi.net
The Thursday Book Group begins meeting this week, September 13, at 1:30pm in the library. Our book will be “The Screwtape Letters” by C. S. Lewis, a classic with over 3,000 five-star ratings on Amazon. The humorous and satirical narrative follows a series of letters from an elderly and experienced fallen angel, “Uncle Screwtape,” to his inexperienced nephew “Wormwood,” with advice on how to misguide the human to whom he has been assigned. Filled with insights into human folly, we nevertheless watch as the human becomes a Christian, falls in love, and finds eternal salvation. We will read the first section of this text together aloud on Thursday. (it’s an easy read.) Copies of the second chapter will be distributed. By the third week we hope people will have their own copy of the text.
We Have Posted our open Minister of Music position with the American Guild of Organists, their local chapters, and the Association of Anglican Musicians. The Position Description can be found at www.saintjamesgi.net/Downloads/MusicMinister.pdf

The Music Series programs that Bobby introduced at Saint James will largely go silent next weekend after a Saturday, September 15 7:30 evening program. It was due to be but the first of the 2018 – 2019 Monthly Music Series programs during the church’s new year but sadly, as it turns out, it will be one of only a few. Bobby has organized an evening titled Choosing Joy: Music for a Cancer Journey, a piano recital by Jeff Manchur, reflecting upon the emotional journey with cancer that his wife experienced, that features works by Garrett Hope, Brahms, Barber, Beach, and Beethoven. Bobby has brought an energy and a passion to Saint James and its music that is exemplary, and it is fitting that we honor his contributions to church life at Saint James by being in attendance at his final Music Series program. Bobby is moving back to Minnesota, closer to family and friends, and will continue his career in music. Standing room only would be an appropriate parting gift for Bobby. Plan to arrive early. -David Hartwell
A special thanks to Kate and David Hartwell for arranging the Hickory Island Club House rental for the ECW Fall Kickoff Lunch venue and graciously understanding that the venue was changed to the GIGC due to concerns about parking and walking distance. Hopefully we can work out the details for another event in the future.
Soup Kitchen Sept. 15th! Hello Friends! Our next turn to prepare the meal and serve at the Spirit of Hope Soup Kitchen will be on Saturday, September 15th. The sign-up sheets are posted on the outreach/soup kitchen bulletin board in the hallway, between the Sunday School room and the choir room. We will meet on the 15th in our Chapel parking lot at 8:20 a.m. to load up the cars and to carpool. Dave & Judy Christie are generously donating 30 pounds of fresh hamburger for the meal!
We will be back home way before 2:00. If you are only able to help for the first (prep Shift) you will be on your way home by 11:00. The second shift (serving) begins at 11:30 and we finish at 1:45. If you have signed up to help and it turns out that you cannot come, please give us a call at 734-693-0694 to let us know.
The Detroit Moose Hockey Team will do the day in October. Our next turn will be in November, when we will prepare and serve a turkey dinner.
Thank you so much for your help. We hope to see you on September 15th. Sincerely, Amy & Frank Kohair
