SAINT JAMES’ WAS FOUNDED by a bequest from a woman born into slavery who had to flee to Canada to receive her freedom. Elizabeth Denison Forth set forth in her will her intention that her savings be used to build a proper Anglican church in the Detroit area where rich and poor alike could worship.
TO THIS DAY Lisette’s intention is honored at Saint James by faithful Christian women and men. These photographs tell part our story.

TRAINING VIDEOS
These videos will help you find Sunday’s Readings, learn about the texts,
and remember how to be a Eucharistic Minister at Saint James.
Sunday’s readings can be found on a calendar on this page. We generally use “Track Two” in the summer and fall. Check with the office to be sure.
Read a short blog post written by a Biblical Scholar about each of Sunday’s passages. If you are reading on Sunday, use this background to help you interpret the passage.
This video will remind you of a Eucharistic Minister’s role and a Crucifer’s role on Sunday. It was made with summer services in mind, but the roles are similar in the program year.
