TODAY IS PENTECOST!
Join us at 8am in the chapel or 10am OUTSIDE. Today’s online service can be found here: http://youtube.com/c/saintjamesgi
BEGINNING THIS WEEK we start to get back to normal at Saint James! Our office will again reopen for normal hours on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays (9-3). Fr. Phil will be available for appointments and pastoral care visits any time. 10am services will move outdoors through September. Church committees can have in-person meetings outside and even inside if small or *especially* careful. — It’s not “all the way” back to normal, but it’s a significant step. Look for more steps in the weeks to come!
BISHOP BONNIE is loosening restrictions for diocesan churches as COVID numbers drop in Michigan. Look for a message from us later this week with all the details!
BEGINNING NEXT WEEK we can sing! That’s right. The bishop has begun allowing soft, “quiet” singing in services starting May 30. Look for more information to come later this week!
WHAT ARE YOUR FAVORITE HYMNS? We’d like to make sure to play them in the coming weeks. Let us know your favorites by sending an email to goodnews@saintjamesgi.net
OUR “UNITED THANK OFFERING” IN-GATHERING will be held today, May 23rd and Trinity Sunday, May 30th. Please turn in your blue boxes either Sunday. UTO envelopes will also be available for donations of cash or checks made out to ‘St. James ECW’. The funds collected are used to provide grants both domestically and abroad to help alleviate profound human suffering. UTO is an outreach of the Episcopal Church that encourages us to deposit change in our ‘blue box’ year round as we give thanks for all of our blessings. LEARNING TO WALK IN THE DARK is the book we’ll be reading together in our new book group, beginning Tuesday, June 1st, at 10:00am. Led by Erica Benson, we’ll be meeting in the Saint James library, or better yet OUTSIDE as weather permits, with the option to “Zoom in” if you prefer. Contact Erica with any questions, or if you want to be part of a group order for the book by Barbara Brown Taylor: ericabenson101@gmail.com & (231) 690-9655. “In Learning to Walk in the Dark, Taylor asks us to put aside our fears and anxieties and to explore all that God has to teach us “in the dark.” Through darkness we find courage, we understand the world in new ways, and we feel God’s presence around us, guiding us through things seen and unseen. Often, it is while we are in the dark that we grow the most.”

10AM SUNDAY SERVICES HAVE MOVED OUTSIDE – Please bring your own lawn chairs, if possible. The main sanctuary will be our rain/cold backup.
A NEW MINISTRY IS BORN! Having services outside takes a bit of extra work. Carts need to be moved, the piano needs to be pushed outside, cones need to be set up, the altar table needs to be put in place, and electronics need to be connected. Then after service these things need to be returned to the building. Please reach out to our Minister of Music Jim Johnson to be put on a schedule to help! His email: music@saintjamesgi.net
