Update From The Treasurer  If you have ever donated special items like memorials, or to the Fun Run or The Wish List we want to say Thank You! Your gifts make a great difference, as they allow us to extend our reach and mission. These special gifts are being categorized separately on your church statement so you can keep track of them. Since pledged funds are relied upon to support our day-to-day ministries, please let special gifts be separate from your pledge of support. Please contact us at any time with questions or comments: 734-676-1727 and treasurer@saintjamesgi.net. And thank you!

150th Anniversary LOGO Contest – We’re coming up on a hugely important birthday for our church — our 150th (1868-2018)! This September we will kick off 12 months of dedications, celebrations and commemorative events, and you can help. We’re looking for a beautiful logo that can be used throughout the year to tie everything together. The logo should look good when printed small (a little larger than a quarter) and be simple enough to be added anywhere. It will appear on church stationery and other printed documents. It will be printed on memorabilia and maybe even stamped onto a coin. Submit your idea by May 25 to goodnews@saintjamesgi.net and you could win a free logo-emblazoned item!

BY REQUEST: Amy Kohair’s recipe for Betty Salad Dressing.

Made for the Wed. Lunch for Rummage Sale:

(This is especially good on a spinach salad. Recipe for that follows)

Shake together in a glass jar with a tight fitting lid, until blended:

1/2 Cup Vegetable oil

1/4 Cup Ketchup

1/4 Cup White Vinegar

2 tsp. Worcestershire Sauce

1/2 Cup Sugar

1 tsp. Garlic Powder

Salt & Coarse Ground Pepper to taste.

Refrigerate overnight before serving and shake well. I multiplied the recipe x4 for the Wednesday lunch,  I should have multiplied it x6 for such a big group!

(For a Vegetarian salad dressing: Use Soy Sauce instead of Worcestershire Sauce)

Betty Salad

Toss together:

1/2 Head Iceberg Lettuce (For crunch)

1/2 bag Baby Spinach (rinsed & dried)

1 can or 1/2 bag fresh Bean Sprouts (wash either well & dry)

1 small Onion finely diced

Bacon: cooked til crispy & crumbled (or Soy Bacon Bits for Vegetarians)

2 Hard Boiled & Diced Eggs (Leave out for Vegetarians)

Sliced Buttton Mushrooms

1 Can Water Chestnuts sliced into thin strips

Croutons

🎵 🎶 🎶🎵  MUSIC NOTES  🎵🎶🎶 🎵

The St. James Bell Choir rehearses Thursdays at 6:30PM, and the St. James Adult Choir rehearses Thursdays at 7:30PM. The children’s choir meets after the 10AM service. All are welcome! Please consider joining in the music at St. James, we have lots of excellent programming this year. If you have reservations about joining that I can smooth over, or even just want to chat and learn some more about music, I’m always happy to talk! I’m easily reached at music@saintjamesgi.net.

This morning’s musical point of interest: We have a tale of two continents in our music this morning. On the organ, you will her music from 19th century France, as the limits of functional harmony were slowly and surely being pushed to the breaking point, and Paris was the thriving center of musical innovation throughout much of the 2nd half of the 1800s. At the same time, many of the “Southern Harmony” types of spirituals were being developed in the U.S. at the exact same time, and this morning you will hear a setting of “Peace Like a River” sung by the choir, originating from the 19th century deep south.
